Hertford County Hospital Urgent Care
My Mum (85) had an accident yesterday , shut her finger in the car door (she did it helself!) I tried to strap it up but could not stop it bleeding, so rung our dr's suregery for advice as it was not really a A&E job.
They suggested I went to the new "small injuries drop in centre" at Hertford County. I didn't know they had one but took her up.
They call it Urgent Care and I have to say they were great, they checked it, x rayed, strapped in up (even they had trouble!) and gave her a tetanus jab and we were back home in just over an hour. had we gone to A & E I suspect we would have been hours!!
All praise to Hertford County Hospital!

DQ's folks got a leaflet about the County Hospital service two days ago (they spend more time in QE2, Lister than supermarkets these days!) and they handle anything that doesn't require a bit more difficult stuff.. ie: if you bang your head they can fix it but anything that maybe a more serious head injury you'd need the A&E at QE2... It looks like a good set up...

Yes its only simple stuff they can handle but they do have X ray there and it is certainly better than all that waiting at Q E 2, Mum refused to go there as last time we were there from 7pm to 2 in the morning and by the time they decided she needed anti biotics the pahrmacy was closed! so she said she would manage which is why I rung our Dr's for advice.
Maybe we will get a leaflet soon!

I note it's 'staffed by GPs'. Maybe that's why you can never get an appointment with one at your own surgery.

We received a leaflet about this a couple of days ago - looks good. Trouble was I almost missed it as they had just dropped it in the porch together with all the bl**dy "charity" clothes collection bags that seem to get dropped every other day! Im sure most of these are not legit, and it is a litter nuisance in my opinion - maybe this is for another thread though!

I think that is the out of hours service, it was Nurses that we saw yesterday

No, it's definitely the 8AM to 8PM Urgent Care Centre that claims to be staffed by GPs as well as nurses. See Steve's link above.

Must be then, maybe I didn't see one as we didn't need one.............
The nurses were great and gave a really fast service.........

Wallace House surgery have been peddling the line for the last couple of months that "because of swine flu we are taking no appointments as our doctors may have to make house calls" which is most inconvenient to say the least. You are supposed to just turn up and the day and hope to be given an appointment (or ring them at 8am which is nigh on impossible to do successfully). What happens if you don't have an understanding work?
This makes it effectively emergencies only (and even then it's not easy). What happens if you want to see a GP about a non-emergency issue?

we're with wallace house too, and to be honest the service recently has been utterly appalling. If i wasnt so lazy, or if i had to go to the doc more often than once in a blue moon, i'd definately move to a different surgery..

I am with Wallace House and have never had trouble getting an appt. instead of phoning Wallace house for an appt i phone Tudor Way surgery as they arent so busy.
