Aga shop moved to Hertford

We would like to extend our best wishes in welcoming John Coopers (the Aga Shop) on their return to Hertford. Coopers started trading in Hertford in 1954, located at the rear of Woolworths, they moved to Hoddesdon 10 years ago and have now returned to Hertford in St Nicholas Hall to the rear of Beckwiths antiques in St Andrew Street. Coopers are open to public now but still have some finishing touches to do to the building and displays. The official 'Grand opening' will be on Saturday 17th October, I am sure with the usual excellent Coopers/Aga hospitality. I am sure everyone will agree that Coopers with Aga will become a big asset to the town and street and draw more shoppers to the town.

Brilliant and well thought out combination of old and new. Tastefully carried out to a very high standard. Beckwiths and Coopers must have spent a packet here and hopefully have come up with a recession beating formula ! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS ! DM

Visted today! Fantastic! Very, very good! I know I'm probably being biased (trading in the same street) but Gordon Grey at Beckwiths should be congratulated for the sensitive and stylish conversion of Beckwiths. This really is a top-class outlet, and even if you're not in the market (or bracket..) for this type of product, you should go and have a look at what Hertford can do so well to compete with the likes of St.Albans etc.

Having an Aga is a wonderful thing - especially in Winter - but having had one for many, many years (gas version) in the summertime, unless you are prepared to cook in sauna like conditions (with not much clothing on! [:0] - you may need an alternative cooker - because believe me, it gets very hot in the kitchen in summer when the temperature outside reaches the high 70's and 80's not to mention those very occasional days when it reaches 90! - phew! [IMG]http://smileys.sur-la-toile.com/repository/Surpris/0031.gif[/IMG] Cooking with an Aga also takes time (and patience) to learn, as when the lids are up for a long time with pots and pans, the temperature of the ovens can fluctuate considerably - and at Christmas time especially - when there are lots and lots of peeps for lunch.... it can be a bit of a juggling act and takes a while to get to grips with it all. However, after saying all that, I adore Agas - they are the heart of the home! Cats and dogs love them too - what a way to bask away your time, in front of, or along side one - bliss!! *J*!

WHOOPS ! Now here's a contradiction. We can mention Gordon Gray at Beckwiths but in previous issues, NOT Mrs D******a C******k of Riverside Garden Centre. GROSS HYPOCRISY

Finally got to take my Mum in there, she was very impressed, picked up the Aga Cookshop catalogue so now we know what to buy her for Christmas! We have had an Aga all my life first one was Coke which Mum and Dad had when the house was built, current one is Oil (oil was cheap when it was put in many years ago!) Mum only ever let it out the first summer and never since, we cook with it all year and don't have a problem with the kitchen getting too hot, then again it is a large kitchen facing north! We really miss it for the 24 hours it has to go out for its annual service, and remembering to put the emmersion heater on for hot water 1 day a year!!
