This has nothing to do with Hertford........and I don't care. I am watching a programme about young soldiers wounded in Afghanistan I am crying my eyes out and I don't give a **** that Hertford doesn't feature in it

I was out so didn't see the programme but the brief coverage I saw of it suggested it was a powerful piece of television. Regardless of your views on the conflict in Afghanistan, the strength and courage of those wounded was beyond remarkable.

Hi buzz yes it does have something to do with Hertford or did you think that war veterans live anywhere else but Hertford? The end of next month you will find the poppy sellers so dig deep and remember these lads and the ones who never saw home again.

Yes Night Owl, you are right. They are all mothers sons, and some of them probably do come from Hertford. As Steve says, regardless of your views on the conflict these boys are amazing.

Buzz I watched it too, the bravery and determination of those guys, especially the para, was unbelieveable. Next time I find myself complaining about some trivial thing I will stop and think. An incredible bit of television, my thoughts are with all those serving in the armed forces, and those who have been injured. Hopefully some polititians were watching and will think about the real reasons they are sending these young lads to war.

Unfortunately politicians don't give a f**k. All they are concerned with is getting their second home allowance or travelling to Cornwall. We must stop these boys being killed and injured!!!

Its very emotive, but a well-made documentary. I think its made me realise what is really going on out there and that war, any war certainly isn't pretty and shouldn't be taken to lightly. I hope these guys are given the full support they need. I was humbled by what I saw

In my opinion this war is also pointless when put into context with other issues in the world where human beings suffer on a daily basis. Having said that I fully support the soldiers and their families as it's not their choice to be in this conflict (albeit they did join the army but I think there's a subtle difference) and they should be assisted in every way possible. Maybe politicians should be nominated to go to RAF Lyneham to carry the coffins from the planes - this may give them some quiet moments to reflect on the decisions they make in parliament?

The Richard Hale Association (society for former pupils of Hertford Grammar School and Richard Hale School) will be publishing its annual magazine next month. The magazine will feature articles from two former pupils. One a Wing Commander who commanded a squadron of Merlin helicopters in Afghanistan, which evacuated wounded servicemen from the battlefield, and the other from a soldier in the RAF Regiment. The former pupil who is in the RAF regiment speaks vividly of his near escape when his vehicle was blown up, seriously injuring himself and his colleagues. Fortunately, he is fully recovered, but his friends lost limbs. To see the photo of his mangled rifle is terrifying. The bravery of both former pupils, like all other servicemen, is extraordinary. So, sadly, many towns up and down the country are touched by contents of the documentary.
