Just to warn those who haven't taxed your car that the DVLA are in town clamping untaxed cars! Better get down the post office sharpish those who don't want to get clamped and fined!!

Should your car be clamped for not having a tax disc I believe failure to rectify the situation can lead to your car being removed and crushed.

Evasion of VEL is indeed a criminal offence and not to be condoned, but the possible consequences and penalties are out of proportion with the nature of the offence. It is, after all, only a means to collect revenue from indirect taxation.

quote:That certainly was true. However, these days insurance and MOT can be checked by other means. To be a way of checking such things the disc does not have to be the price it is. That is just revenue collection in a way that allows governments to quote lower tax rates than are actual.

I know they are all linked up etc I renew online as I can't do it here in Bengeo and refuse to go to the Fore Street Post office and queue=for hours !! I think it is still true though that you cant get Road Tax if it is not insured so one can help the other and hopefully not many people want their cars crushed!!
