Police Chief is too complacent!
Presumably as this featured in last weeks Hertford Mercury it is on topic?
Unsure what part of Hertfordshire Chief Constable Frank Whiteley is referring to, where crime is falling, perhaps he needs to venture out from Stanborough Park now and again! You are only in a safe place if crime doesn't come your way and I for one have had my fair share. I never quite understand the acronym crime is falling but detection rates are rising, logic suggests that if one falls so should the other as there shouldn't be so many crimes to detect. Obviously the feed back from officers and PCSO's is not making it's way back to the top, or is it being suggested that many coppers are sitting on their hands in this safe county of ours?
May I suggest they take a trip through Cheshunt or Ware, Waltham cross and Hoddsedon, even some parts of Hertford are not immune, and there will be seen the scourge that is Drug Crime, which not only has such a detrimental effect on our young but also diminishes the quality of our society by involving all of us in the effects of petty theft, anti social behavior and the risk of more serious and violent attacks. In much the same way as I was concerned when the Borough Commander of Broxbourne said he did not like to use the term 'mugger' I wonder what route to complacency Chief Whiteley has taken?
First line of attack would be for more PCSO's to be regarded as community officers getting to know their beat and relaying intelligence back to their Senior officers who in turn can put the limited resources of front line cops to the best use. If there remains a limit of resources it is incumbent on the police to rally support from the law abiding citizens rather then alienating them with harassment just to keep their arrest targets up, and to deal with public concern in a robust manner, or in time their apathy will turn into our anarchy and we will put our selves at risk by defending our society. I challenge Chief Whiteley to come down from his Ivory Tower and make Hertfordshire a drug free zone RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI styli, who knows it may take on in other counties and push violent crime back into London for Mayor Boris to tackle, and he may wish to start with the upsurge of anti-social and drunken behaviour many of us experience most evenings and each weekend, when we as tax payers are minding our own business and not seeking to interfere with anyone![8D]

Incidents reported recently on this forum about events in Hertford include:
- 5 young men involved in an altercation at approximately 01.20 in the morning resulting in an assault, yet none of them live in Hertford.
- Report of repeat incidents of "random Gangs" wearing balaclavas in the Priory Street area.
- Frequent disturbances occuring in the Cowbridge area including damage to property, linked to complaints made by local residents about noise and cheap alcohol sales at the Sugar Hut.
- An anti-drugs raid operation by the Police.
- Smashed windows along St. Andrews Street.
- A spate of attempted break-ins in the Foxholes housing estate.
Coincidence or connected? Has our town centre become a magnet to Thugs Unlimited, including the attraction of imports from our neighbours?
Whilst Daveyone's original posting dated 31st July received criticism for his writing style, I have a coffee-aroma sense of awakening with regard to his message about the spread of crime including " . . . petty theft, anti social behavior (sic) and the risk of more serious and violent attacks . . ."
To Daveyone, I apologise.
