Opticians have incredibly high margins (like estate agents they flood town high streets), if you havent got a very complicated presciption the Specsavers is a good place to start.

Its pretty much off-topic (location wise) but my parents emigrated to Cyprus so I always go to an optician there – they are always trained in the UK, usually have nicer facilities, better selection of frames and are far, far cheaper. It's a bit of a drag for a quick check up though...

Thanks Avarice decided to book with Thomsons am off to Cyprus for my check up! Best advice I've ever had! Seriously though have opted for boots, although was amazed that I went into a few of the stores in town they were all empty of customers yet the earliest I could get an appointment was next week, seemed quite strange to me!

Not in Hertford, but a very good optician is the lady at the one in Station Road, Broxbourne - Eileen Gray I think.

Yes she is very good, esp if you have a complex eye condition.

I've recently(ish) been to Designer Eyes and found their service to be good if not outstanding. The Optician herself is very good but only works a few days a week (she works at Moorfields I think). The range of frames is extensive but they're usually at the expensive end of the spectrum, unsurprising given the name "Designer Eyes". Overall I'd give them a 7/10. Should maybe have scored more but I let myself be talked into getting a very high index lens (ie thin) which was quite expensive, not sure if I needed it.
