Tell me I wasn't dreaming, there was a small plane doing aerobatics yetserday (Sat) afternoon over the Bengeo area? Going straight up then seemed to stall before going over the top and down etc, flew off in the direction of Tonwell. Tried to get on to ask at the time but for some reason couldn't get on to the site which is why this is a rather late post but would still love to be sure I didn't imagine it..........

Posted - 23 Sep 2008 : 20:01:21 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Success - Panshanger Airfield have agreed with me that this pilot should not be practicing his aerobatic stunts over my back garden. In fact he should only be practicing within a square mile of the airfield. That's Marden Hill to the North, Holly Grove Road to the East, the A414 roundabout to the South & the edge of Panshanger Estate to the West. If this guy is making your life a misery too, please complain directly to the airfield [email protected] Hi Marilyn, This is probably the same guy that has been at it in previous years - nobody notices the noise in Winter, it's only when the sun comes out & you are sitting in the back garden that the noise becomes evident.

Hi Muddy No I had not noticed it before though it was because I had the door open the I investigated the noise, wasn't a problem but I can undestand if it happens a lot it would be.......If it happens again I will certainly get on to them, there was another small plane flew past a few minutes later and I wondered how they control the airspace with this guy doing such big stunts and using a lot of height very fast etc. Just glad AND wasn't around in his Paramotor I would expect that would be a bit daunting coming across someone doing this all over the skys.

I’m in Lower Bengeo and I could here the noise quite clearly inside my house. I was on the phone so didn’t go out it investigate. Must say I wouldn’t regard it as a nuisance unless it started happing frequently.

Was at Panshanger Airfield yesterday and saw it take off and do his tricks. Thought it was quite a good free show myself.

I don't see an issue with his aerobatics! There is allways someone who will moan. He should practice over different areas though so not to annoy people to much....but nice to see every now and again. Off flying myself tonight

It's fun to watch a few times, but in the summer it can be most evenings and the constant droning does start to grate. It's always the same, up and down ... up and down ... We can hear it inside the house too, whether he's over Bengeo or over Panshanger, not that it's a big problem. Nice plane though.

I was fascinated yesterday and nice to know I didn't imagine it and yes it was a good free show just hope he does vary where he does it so people enjoy the free show and don't get annoyed by it as it is very noisy for those immediatley below on the ground unlike the paramotor or a balloon... AND if I see you I will wave..............

I'm flying on Saturday. I hope there are other aircraft in the sky above Hertfordshire because it's pretty boring when it's quiet [:D] Marilyn, in answer to your question - the 'airspace' over Hertford simply isn't controlled below 2500 ft. Go where you want when you want, talk to who you want, if indeed you feel like making radio contact at all. There lies the beauty of general aviation. Have you ever experienced the sensation of flying in a light aircraft in uncontrolled airspace? And will know, I'm sure [:D]

as long as you're not doing tricks over my house after 9pm in the summer, you can fly where you like! If that biplane does it again and wakes my daughter up again this year, I'll be waiting for him when he lands. If he does it again, he and the people managing PAnshanger are totally irresponsible. Both have been made aware on many occaisions of the nuiscance they're causing.

From The Directorate of Airspace Policy, Environmental Information Sheet - Number 8 "The Rules of the Air Regulations (RoA) states that an aircraft shall not carry out any aerobatic manoeuvre over the congested area of any city, town or settlement. Away from congested areas, the RoA restrict aerobatic flying in the same way as any other aircraft activity; ie not within 500 feet of any person, vessel, vehicle or structure. (Note: this is a minimum distance, not a minimum height)" It goes on "The Civil Aviation Authority's General Aviation Safety Sense leaflet (GASIL 9A) regarding aerobatics advises novice pilots that all manoeuvres should be completed by 3000 feet above ground level"

Regardless of how entertaining it is (and i will admit it does look very good) if some bloke was pulling those stunts above my house I think I would be waiting for him when he landed with a baseball bat and some friendly advice on where to do it in the future.

Steve, that's absolutely correct. And I don't know a single pilot who would put their licence in jeapoardy by doing aerobatics over Bengeo - to what end?

we were at Panshnger today so the little one could watch the planes take off & land (she loves planes!). She got to see the stunt biplane take off and I was waiting for him to fly off and do his stunts over my house again. He headed off in the direction of Letty Green though, after taking off and immediately going in to a vertical climb. He's got some balls, I'll give him that.

He'd have no balls at all if Mrs Whale got hold of him on Saturday as he was divebombing in the airspace above my house. What happens when he makes a mistake or suffers mechanical failure and crashes into one of our houses with peotentially tragic consequences?
