With plans to expand Stansted Airport and it's consequential effect on local communities how come everyone else is affected by the so called credit crunch, but not the airlines? I raise this as I have noticed a significant number of night flights landing and counted 20 between 10pm and 2 am with a further 4 from 2am to 6 am a few nights ago and a varying amount of loudness was detected presumably depending on how low they are. This I guess is replicated throughout the East Herts and West Essex area disturbing many rural communities! Surely there cannot really be a case for further expansion? [:(]

Hello Daveyone and welcome to the forum. The general subject of airport expansion in itself is not specifically a Hertford issue and technically off-topic. Ditto the health or otherwise of the airline industry. However, the effect on the town is. Hi Thanks for welcome I will be pleased to read more on this as time allows. The point I was trying to raise here was the perceived increase of night flights over this area noticable Ware and Broxbourne on this side of the airport, I wonder if anyone else had noticed[?] You may be interested to know for the record Charles Walker is opposed to expansion of Stansted and would be interested to know what Mark Prisks view is will not labour thepoint however if not relavent to this board[8D]

The answer to the question posed in the thread title is:- Nope, not at all. Daveyone must live in a different part of Hertford than all the many parts of Hertford that I've lived in. The only time I've noticed planes is when they were pointed out in a previous thread on the same subject.

There was an easyJet plane flying directly above my garden yesterday afternoon fairly low. Not sure whether this was from Stansted or Luton (I'm not a plane spotter) but it was definitely a plane and definitely noisy and definitely over Hertford. Not night time though.

I also live on the top of the hill in Bengeo, and like Victor have no probs with aircraft. As for Daveyone, do you have nothing else to do other than stay up all night counting planes!!!! Very sad.

Stansted Expansion For Manston! Having written previously about low flying aircraft over head at night I am pleased to confirm my campaign has worked as I have not detected any night flights since! If only it were that simple, but alas there is the prospect of another runway at Stansted as well as further additional flights heading for Heathrow. Yet all of this could so easily be avoided if we take tip from our London Mayor, who proposes we build an entirely new airport in the Thames estuary, but instead head for the North-East corner of Kent where an existing runway exists able to handle that giant Russian transporter plane so presumably the infrastructure is in place to handle any other aircraft at Manston. The location as such takes away the risk of disturbance to people who’s quality life should be left as their idyll, whilst the area around Manston and nearby Ramsgate are in need of regeneration with excellent road and rail links to London, as well as swift cross channel routes to the continent and this location could act as a feeder hub for Charles De Gaulle and Schiphol airports taking much of the strain and necessity to expand away from the higher populated areas surrounding our inland airports![8D]

I do wonder where you live. The planes that disturb you, I've never noticed and I sleep with the window open all year and have lived in most areas of Hertford at one time or another. It may be that it's a very narrow corridor in which the sound is noticeable.

I'm in Molewood Road and the planes were really loud last night, just before midnight. I also had the unnerving sight of the criss-crossing planes during the evening. I'm sure they are a safe distance and I'm sure all air traffic controllers know what they are doing....but it's a wee bit scary. Paul, it's all quiet in Molewood Road just now! The Panshanger Man has done his stuff and gone home too.

Cassie.. I got woken up at 4.30 am on Monday morning this week by a low flying, incoming to either Luton or Stansted I was furious, couldn't get back to sleep and it was the right time.. I used to work for a short time in the airlines so this was no "night flight".. They keep pushing the boundaries....[:(!]
