However, their on-line links to buy is still up and running, so maybe Russell is carrying on with the internet service for non-plant items for the time being? I really hope he is not closing down -- we love that shop, and need to get our spring plants in soon! we went down there today, it was absolutely rammed, loads of people there, so thats a great sign! they also had a fair bit of stock, so all is looking good, it seems the restaurant bit was worst hit, not sure when that will be open again.

We went there this weekend and I was very impressed with the service, knowledge and offerings. Prices were keen (a pot of 18 bay tree seedlings for £5.99 was a great find) and plant health was good. it was also nice to be advised of a no-spend alternative to something I was looking to buy (potato bag - out of stock with no replacements, use an old compst bag instead as it does the same thing). I was also very impressed with the new kitchen shop bit - huge space with extensive range of kitchenalia. I shall certainly go here as a first choice in preference to Van Hague.

Ma and Pa Drama Queen were extremely impressed by the array of cooksware available in the Riverside. They have been all over the place, including the new cook shop in Hertford next to Farrow and Farrow and found they had a lot of stock and very well priced and also, in their opinions, better than good old John Lewis! I am glad the DQ family are supporting local ventures.. pleased to have it back and running again[:D]

You must be unlucky I have always found him Ok, not ever seen him shouting. He also supports Hertford in Bloom, All Saints Church etc.....Ok it gets him publicity but at the same time he does not have to do it!

Charitable or not he's certainly a miserable git. Usually chucks his toys out of his pram when he can't have his own way. Didn't he know the place flooded after heavy rain? Everybody within a ten mile radius of Hertford did and surely the divine Diana Cook must have enlightened him before he handed over his dosh....

I have to disagree they had longer hours in the old resturant before the flood so why did they change them on him? We had a Sunday Lunch party there 10 days ago and it was fantastic I think a local independant business should be encouraged not given obsticles at every turn. There are other businesses both multiples and independants who seem to be able to flout the rules and get away with it. How many neighbours can it affect? I am sure there are other places with longer hpurs and much closer neighbours.

Marilyn, Regardless of that, Russell has had issues with the planning department in the past so should get his brain in to gear. Doubtless he will grace The Mercury with his mush and continue to go for the sympathy vote whilst threatening his staff with redundancy. WHAT A DICK !

tiger.1000 regardless of what............that he is trying to run a business with one hand tied behind his back, are they any other resturants in Hertford that have to close that early? Don't use them so don't really know but I would have thought most had later closing times than he has been given. I realise you are not a fan of his but personality aside he is trying to get a local business to work, there are always moans on here about empty shops/ businesses closing etc you would think he should get some encouragement. If my memory serves me right it was first sold to Rochford and Barber when they moved from behind the Library and they then sold to him.

My other point is that I never mentioned the shop in Maidenhead Street until AFTER it was announced that it was going, so it was too late to encourage or discourage anyway, whereas Riverside is trying to build their business.

Went here yesterday to buy 2 posts to support two new tree's I have. Total came to £4.95 but they dont accept Debit Cards for items/totals under £5. Wasted journey and no sale for them... I know there is a small fee for using a debit card for the retailer but this is stupidity...Van Hages gets my cash Last time I visit.

It was all the more annoying when I offered to buy a bag of dog food to take it over £5 but was told each section is a different cost center and that I needed to spend £5 in each. The chap did kindly suggest I buy an ice cream to get the total up though...
