Hertford Charity run
On Sunday 19th April we will be holding our event 'The Hertford Charity Run'.
We held the event last year as 'The Mayor of Hertford's Charity Run' and it seemed to be very popular - so as we began to get e-mails asking if it would be held again, we decided to go ahead with it.
Everything will be the same (except the snow)!
The race is multiterrain, approximately 10k, and the route uses the Cole Green Way and the lanes through Hertingfordbury, Staines Green and Letty Green. We have a UK Athletics permit so the race will be run under UK Athletics rules which means you must be 15 years of age or older on race day to enter.
Our headquarters will be the Richard Hale school, the start is
adjacent to the Hertford Town FC and the finish in County Hall car park.
All proceeds from the race will go to our nominated charity the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund (www.rpmf.org.uk).

Stuck my application in the post this morning - hope the event is as well-attended as it was last year. I heard recently that there used to be a half-marathon in Hertford, any chance of reviving that in the future?

Entries are coming in every day and it looks as though it will be very well attended this year.
Yes, there used to be a half-marathon in Hertford but it was last held 25 years ago!
From memory it started/finished on Hartham Common and the route was along Mangrove Road through Goose Green to Lord Street Hoddesdon and then all the way back along the Ware Road.
I don't think that route could be revived as at that time the Sunday trading laws were different so the roads were much quieter. The police do not give approval to anything on the road but may have no objection if the roads are quiet with little traffic. Stevenage are still able to hold their half-marathon as they have cycle paths and underpasses but without that it would be impossible on the road.
Unless anyone can come up with an off-road route I don't think it would be feasible.

I doubt whether the half-marathon will come back, but the Ware 10 may well re-appear this year...in October. Not on the same route as the previous Ware 10, but with a bit of off-road in it. I reckon this is due to what Linda said about the Police view on things.

I really enjoyed this event though I do ache a bit! I even saw some bits of Hertford I've never seen before. Many thanks to those that organised the event and helped out on the day.

Great event again, seemed to be even more people than last year. Thanks to the organisers for a great morning.
I couldn't hang around long enough for the results to be published at the end, are they available online anywhere?

Thank you to everyone who took part, all the volunteers and people who came out to cheer the runners as they went past. We hope to have raised a good sum for the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund and when all the money is in I will give the total on here. I hope we'll all be back next year.
