I've found a dog!

Hello, A dog followed me in to my flat late last night. He's been out this morning for a walk around and doesn't seem to be able to find his home. We are in the Temple Fields are of Bengeo. If anybody has lost a well house-trained terrier-type dog - white with a brown patch on his back, let me know. I am getting in touch with the RSPCA now too. Sally xx

The RSPCA aren't sure they can come out today to get the dog, so I'm going to take him to Panshanger Airfield for lunch. He's been for a walk around the neighbourhood and nobody recognises him. He's so friendly! I hope to reunite him with his owner soon though. Waiting to hear back from the RSPCA before exploring other avenues.

have you taken him to a vet to see if he's been microchipped? I have seen a missing dog poster recently and it sounds like this dog...there was a photo...I'm off out to check

well the 'missing poster' had gone but was replaced with a different one! The original dog sounded more like the one you've found. The 'new' missing dog is a terrier/cross breed type again, all white tummy but from the photo he has brown and black markings on the face and back.

Millie - that sounds just like him!!!! Where is the poster? I'm jsut about to go for a walk in Bengeo with him... I did go to the vets earlier and both vets were closed. Might need to get him scanned tomorrow, as the RSPCA can't get to me today, the police don't do dogs any more, and I was surprised to hear that there simply is NO animal warden in East Herts.

that's weird, I'm sure the guy who lives over the road to me is an animal warden [?]

Hiya. I went for a walk up and down in Bengeo to look for the poster, and in case the owners were driving/walking around looking for him - and they were :-) So he is now reunited with his owners. I'm so pleased! Yes, the number I called was a central number and they said they had no animal wardens in East Herts, but I have since learnt that there is indeed a local dog warden.

Well done Sally! Woof! I wonder if, now that because the police do not *do dogs* (or lost dogs ), the law has changed regarding reports about dogs, because if you unfortunately/accidentally run over, or hit a dog in your car, you always had to report it. mmmmmmm [/img] I guess the micro-chipping situtation has saved them that particular problem, because most people would take an injured animal to a local vet when possible as hopefully responsible owners would have their dogs chipped for insurance etc. However, those poor animals without chips have to chance their luck, I guess, if the police don't deal with them and there is no animal warden in their area!

He is chipped and I would have had to have got him scanned today - not easy when I had to go to work and I don't work near Hertford! Last time I found a dog the police were still doing dogs, so it was a lot easier to hand him in. Vets aren't open on Sundays, or not that I'm aware of. Is the vet at 'Pets at Home' in Harlow open on Sundays for scanning lost pets, I wonder...
