hi, for those who's rubbish collections didnt happen today (or recycling) does anyone know if it'll be rescheduled, or do we just have to wait till next week? (2 weeks for recyc!) Dan

The Mercury (Font of all local knowledge) says normal black bin) rubbish collection will not start until next week. For next week only extra sacks left by the bin will be taken. Green recycling boxes should be left out for tomorrow when an extra collection will be made.

if anyone needs to leave bags out with their wheelie bins, shame on you for not recycling! Admittedly there are only three of us, but even after nearly two weeks, our bin is less than half full (and the third member is a one-year old, so loads of nappies to dispose of). I can't see how even a family of 5 can fill a wheelie bin in 2 weeks unless no recycling is being done.

quote:Was just going to say that! We have a 4week old baby and you know how many nappies they go through a day! Cloth nappies also look lovely on the washing line. Hertford boast a fantastic nappy company http://www.closebaby.eu/home/index.dot Great nappy!

Must admit I was pretty peed off about this one. Put the green box out Friday night as I took the advice (stupidly) that recycling would be collected 7am Saturday morning. Bag of glass carefully hidden behind box to escape unwanted attentions of Friday night returning home nut cases ( I live on North Road). In and out many times on Saturday but clearly no attempt whatsoever by EHDC to collect stuff for recycling as advertised. I am very much in favour of recycling schemes, hence my small criticism (above), but if the local authority believe they can pull the wool over people's eyes when they can clearly not deliver, as in this instance, is it any wonder that no-one takes EHDC's recycling policy seriously. It appears quite obvious from this instance that there was never any intention on the part of EHDC to make a recycling collection on Saturday and the said organisation really has no serious recycling policy or any intention to carry out policies stated in authority policy.

I phoned EHDC on Tuesday to ask about collections. My normal collection day is Wednesday. Was assured that collection would take place as usual. And........of course not. Phoned again and spoke to a Mr. Kellett Waste (of space)Services Officer. Said the driver of the lorry had decided it wasn't safe to travel down my road. I pointed out that a John Lewis delivery driver didn't have any problems. Also asked him if he would be happy if Police, Ambulance or Fire services decided that it was too dangerous if he phoned them.

Our green box was due to be collected on Monday and has been waiting by our gate ever since. I left it out for the Saturday collection that the council website advised would happen but nothing as yet. We struggle to fit everything in one green box per fortnight anyway so now it is well and truly overflowing with many extra bags! This week our brown bin is due so assume my green box will continue to over flow until a week on Monday ?!

quote:Because re-useable nappies are useless. We had some when she was younger and the washing machine has never been used so much. Add that to the fact that unless you have a tumble drier, they never dry in this weather. So, they're not exactly as green as people would have you believe.

Now 3.30pm. Black bin empted as normal (Mondays). Still awaiting collection of recycling box. Now a week late and not now due until next Monday. Do I leave it out on the off chance they may turn up one day this week or do I take it back in? Anyone had their overdue box emptied ?

we had all three today - brown bin, rubbish bin and recycling boxes and Mondays is our normal collection day

I rang the council this morning regarding my green box. I was asked to take it in and put it out again at the next normal collection date (which for me is next Monday).
