In Friday's (16.01.09 - page 2) Mercury, it was reported that two house burglaries took place before xmas at Turpins Close, Sele Farm. It was obvious to the Mercury that as all Hertford's burglaries take place in Sele Farm, Turpins Close must be there too. However, the last time I went to Turpins Close it was in the Ladywood Road Estate on the way to Hertingfordbury. Still, it's not like the Mercury to let the facts get in the way of a good story is it?

Turpins is arguably closer to Sele than Hertingfordbury but I take your point. Clearly the perpetrators took the proximity to Thieves Lane as an invitation.

I suspect as it is Sele side of the dual carriageway and behind Sele school it probably does count as Sele more that Hertinfordbury which always was a seperate village. It is just such a shame that Sele has a bad reputation just because of a few people who are less law abiding that the majority of peolpe who live there. Same with the School I it doing a great job these days but still having to live down a less good reputation, I notice it seems to be above Simon Balle in the tables that were published this week.

Turpins Close is not on the Ladywood Road Estate and never has been. It was built way before Ladywood Road and Halleys Ridge were built. It was also a different company that built the houses at Turpins Close, Leach Homes if I remember right.

O.K James007, I hope you saw that I was being mischievous to make the point that the Mercury like running down Sele Farm. To take your point further though, where do the residents of Turpins Close say they live then? Clearly not Hertingfordbury as that is a separate village. Not on the Ladywood Road Estate, as that was built later. Can't be Sele Farm as that was built earlier. Maybe someone from Turpins Close can enlighten us.

I used to live in Turpins Close , we used to just say 'off Thieves lane' . Think you will find it was Rialto Homes James007 .

Well i rented a house in Turpins Close ...directly from Rialto homes in Bayfordbury . Not saying 100% they built it , but they certainly owned it .
