Bengeo -V- Hertford
I've noticed in topics of late that comments are sometimes made in reference to Bengeo being inferior to Hertford in some respects...
However people I know locally often comment that most of Bengeo is a great deal more desirable than a lot of Hertford.
Is there some kind of inverted snobbery about living in Bengeo? Or do people in the main draw no distinction between it and Hertford?
Just curious that's all.

Bengeo is part of Hertford so how can it be inferior to Hertford if it is indeed inside it? If you read the letters page of the Mercury you will see that some Bengeo residents may not agree with that. There is a lot of snobbery.

Like anywhere, there's good and bad - Bengeo is no different. I don't think there's that much to feel superior about.
The likes of Warren Park Road are balanced by areas like Revels Road.
You pays your money and takes your choice.

How it it balanced though - you can see the end of warren park road from the end of revels road, and the houses in nearby roads to revels road, such as boundary, st leonards, rib vale contain 500/600k+ houses, and I would think are fairly desirable.
I know there was an isolated incident of car vandalism a couple of years back by Revels road, but this aside I can't think of a "bad" bit of Bengeo.
I can think of many perceived bad bits of Hertford though...

I think it is because the schools are all the side of Gascoyne Way that is SG13 whereas we in Bengeo are SG14 estate agents seem to think it makes a difference? Hasn't harmed house prices up here on the hill being SG14!

When the ice caps (allegedly) melt, I think Bengeo will feel decidedly superior. The majority of Hertford is built on a flood plain.

i had better get the sandbags ready then. you never know. i have seen the movie where new york freezes over, but i cannot remember the name right now.

Bengeo Parish starts when you cross the River Beane at Cowbridge I believe Upper and Lower are recent introductions!

Residents formed the "Lower Bengeo Residents Association" in 2005.

All I know is that we here in Upper Bengeo are clearly superior in every way to those unfortunate people down in Lower Bengeo.
As for the rest of Hertford (known in these parts as 'Even Lower Bengeo'), I rarely find the need to go there, but when I have I've found it to be a thoroughly dreadful place.

Perhaps my view will change if I ever manage to scramble those few yards up the hill to a place where the convenience of access up and down Byde Street is less of an issue and I too can lord it over all of the Hertford scumbags.[;)]

Oh dear god. Wasn't this covered ad nauseum in at least two other threads? At least it's still jovial right now so while that mood lasts and pending the flamethrowers' coming out of the repair shop, can I suggest we weak jawed, braying, jack-boot-wearing toffos of Bengeo Upper Tis-tsn't-tis-a Village rename 'Even Lower Bengeo' to 'Bengeo's Bottom'?[:D][:D][;)]

The name Lower Bengeo is a fairly recent addition isn't it? Having lived for 25 years *up the hill* and latterly *down* - I see no real problem with the name either way!
