Herts Country Council Chief Executive pay

I read in the Sunday Times yesterday an article about the pay of Council Chief Executives and it had a small table insert of the 5 highest paid ("the 200k club"). Hertfordshire County Council was number three as they are paying their Chief Executive £203,000! Now I know the (spurious IMHO) argument about comparisons with a CEO of a council-sized private company but is Herts. County Council much bigger than other councils or has a more difficult demographic (doubt it) that would justify us being number 3 in the country?

As a CEO does v ery little other than take credit for the work of everyone below them anyway, does their position even warrant half of that salary? I'm sure there are many a person being paid £100k who could do the job just as well

All of the above applies to Hertfordshire. It is impossible to value a role without detailed knowledge of the Job Description and T&Cs. We don't know about either. Public sector is something of a law unto itself anyway. Comparisons with private sector don't really help as the management culture is very different.

If this is the person I think it is and she is an ex-social worker and I do not think that she has the credentials for the job and the money that she is being paid is very wrong and this seems to be a case of not what you know but who you know and I did place a complaint with the standards board about this, so the next time the council asks where should they make cuts in service to save money you all know where to start.
