Can anybody recommend a good place to buy a real Christmas tree?

Have to say the one in the market, the normal plant stall(by Oddbins) has served pretty well over the last 2 years - mind, for me its a 2 minute carry home so some bias there. Have used the one on North Rd near Waterford, also good (& good value)

There's a farm just outside Dane End where their main business is growing Christmas Trees. You can select your tree while it's still in the ground (or certainly used to be able to). I know a local florists that get their trees from there. The trees are taken straight to the florist shop where I know for certain that about 5 yrs ago they used to mark them up at over £10 what they had paid for them. The farm sells to the public as well. I don't know the name of the place, but drive to Dane End, then take a left turn at the junction. There should be signs, but anyone in the village would be able to direct you

Also Riverside Garden Centre he is donating £2 for the sale of each tree to the campaign to save Balls Wood. He supplied all the trees for the festival at All Saint's this weekend and if they quality of those is a indicator they are superb.

Millmead School in Port Vale has a Xmas tree sale tomorrow (Sunday 7th December)between 10am and 12pm

We got a nice one today from Top Pots Nursey. Also looked at Dane End farm - good trees but reckon they are quite pricey

We got ours at Dane End last year & it was really good value - bit of a muddy walk from the car park though,so wear your wellies!

Maybe a little out of your way but I always got my tree (I'm now exiled in Hants) from Ayletts Plant Centre on the A414 towards St Albans. They do several different species and will drill the base so it fits on a stand. Reasonable prices too.
