Today 25,11,08 I was shopping in Tesco,s and I was caught short due to a dodgy meal out and normaly I would never use a public toilet but with no choice I ventured into the one inside Tesco,s and as I was sitting down I looked up and noticed two white box things above the door and one of them has got a piece of black glass and looked like it might have a camera in it and it faces the toilet, does anyone know if this is a camera or is it something else? As long as they don't invade ones "privacy" they are permissible. They are becoming more and more common. They are often installed in places such as school toilets. Mainly to prevent people from defecating on the floor, smashing up mirrors etc Whilst the camera itself won’t catch someone in the act, you can narrow it down as to who it might be when they leave the room. Sign of the times I’m afraid.

This does look like some kind of security camera and if it is there just to catch peoples faces to see who is say doing damage, then if the culprit is a kid about 3 foot high and I have a 33 inch inside leg??????????? But the toilet is just behind the security desk???

I guess the thing to do is just ask them (Tesco). Might even do that myself when I'm next in there.

If 'night owl' and 'exiled-in-reading' are proven to be actually right with their claims then we are in for a rather large dose of newspaper reporting. Ouch!

If this is not a camera it is still very disconcerting to put something up that resembles some kind of security camera, I wonder if they have got one in the ladies as well? I have been in a managers office of this type of store and he had a wall full of security monitors, and Pez please ask them to fix the toilet roll holder which has been broken and clean the toilet and put some dam toilet paper out and tell them they have some in the last isle thank you or I might do something on the floor ho ho just a little prezzy from santa.

A couple of weeks ago I was in the castle grounds with the family when one of the nippers needed to go ! We made a quick exit towards the public loo's attached to wetherspoons, above the urinals there is a camera and it looks like it must be able to see the whole of the room !!! Must be a new trend [}:)]

hate to disappoint you all these sound like PIR sensors which will either be flushing urinals or turning lights on and off when people enter the room. They will not be cameras.

I thought that PRI sensors had a white plastic covering? This thing has a black tinted glass with something metal behind it, I did not take a close look incase this was a camera, perhaps in future we should all start wearing disguises? [8D]

Yes thats the bugger, it must have a really good solar panel to operate off of a fluorescence light, its still very disconcerting for them to put up anything in the toilets that resembles a camera, and as for smelling anything, there was nothing when I walked into the toilet but being a 6,2inch lorry driver there was a fragrance when I left and it was not Autumn Mist Ho Ho [;)]
