The Richard Hale Association is the society of former pupils of Hertford Grammar and Richard Hale School. It works to maintain links between all former pupils of the school, whatever age they may be, or wherever they may now live. The Association would like to announce the imminent publication of 2008 edition of The Hertfordian, our annual magazine. This 90-page colour publication is packed full of news and reviews from the school (past and present) and from former pupils. This year, The Hertfordian includes: • News from former pupils throughout the world from every decade since the 1920s; • News of school activities and achievements • Articles on life after school from bishops, soldiers, businessmen musicians and writers • News and photos from reunions for former pupils from the 1940s and 1970s • Dates for future reunions for pupils from the 1990s • Obituaries and memories of former pupils, including the well-known Brian Wilde and John Creasey. • And much more! This year’s magazine is kindly supported by the Master’s House, a restaurant, bar and hotel due to open in Spring 2009 in the building, on Fore Street, which, until 1900, housed the Headmaster and a number of borders. We would be delighted to hear from former pupils who would like to join the Association and receive their copy of the magazine. Membership costs only £15 (£5 for under 21s) and provides access to facilities at the Hale Club, in Hoe Lane, Ware, and has a variety of associated clubs (Hertford Rugby Club, Ware (Old Hertfordians) Cricket Club, Old Hertfordians Golfing Society and the Old Hertfordian Masonic Lodge). The Association has three formal gatherings each year (an AGM and lunch in December, an annual dinner at Easter and a Summer lunch in July) as well as many informal gatherings. Finally, of course, by joining the Richard Hale Association you would be supporting the county town’s oldest school.
