My wife and I are currently house hunting for a 3/4 bedroom house and wondered what Foxholes is like? Is it a good are to live or not? We are finding the whole process discouraging what with the lack of suitable properties on the market in Hertford, but we are reluctant to broaden our search area as we like living in Hertford. Viewed a house there when they were newly built but it the new build premium price put it out of reach. With hindsight, glad we did not move there now - a lot of it seems very cramped together.

We have lived in Hertford for 15 years and I have had an eye out for a bigger house for sometime. I currently live in a Victorian terrace house. I keep looking at Foxholes because it appears to tick all the boxes, but somehow there's just something about it which prevents me from going any further. I have two children age 8 and 12 years and for me, the plus side of Foxholes is that there are lots of children on the estate which has now matured, it's relatively safe to play out up there, the houses are designed for modern family life and are relatively good value. On the minus side it's just a bit too far from the town centre, shops and schools, and station, the estate is surrounded by busy roads, and it's not a great walk into town. The houses are very characterless and the rooms small, and it's all a bit "suburban". For me, the character of the houses, and the pleasant, easy walk to town and station still outweigh the benefits of a slightly better room layout and a tiny bit more garden.

We lived in Cublands for 3 years, moving away only a couple of years ago. We never had any problems there. The local shops on Birdie Way weren't particularly nice late at night. There are plenty of small children on the estate.

It's a great place to live. There is no anti social behaviour and all the neighbours are excellent. We have barbeques and christmas drinks etc and everyone gets on. It is a bit of a walk into town but it is walkable. I can't think of anything worse than having bad neighbours. You'd be preety safe here. [^]

I used to live there. You basically have to drive everywhere as nothing is within a short walk (apart from mcdonalds and small shop on birdie way). About the best thing I could say is that is handy for the A10 (not sure if that is a great thing).

Pro's: Quieter than being in town Always somewhere to park, and for friends to park when they visit Safe enough for kids to play out Good neighbourly relations [we have found] Good potential to extend, re-model, the houses New Marks and Spencer food outlet being built nearby Close to road links In the catchment for good schools Some of the gardens are quite big Cons: Houses do not have lovely victorian features [if that's your bag] It is a long walk into town Some of the gardens are quite small It may be too quiet for some You seem to pay a premium for the houses for being in the 'SG13 catchment area' for those good schools... We live up here and had all of the above concerns when we bought three years ago. I do use the car to drive into town a lot and sometimes wish I could just stroll into town. However at other times after living in a 'lively' area, I am really glad that every night I can get a good nights sleep if I need it, and that we have lovely neighbours around us. We both love older houses and talk about moving again to a house with more 'character', but we are getting a bit comfy up here as it suits most of our needs. Good luck with your search for a home!

Thank you everybody. We currently live in a 2 bedroom cottage and have a small child, so we desperately need more space. A garage would be luxury as we live at the very bottom of Bengeo, where you know the parking is not ideal - we park legally a long way from our house before anyone asks! The distance into town is a concern as my wife likes to have the option of not having to rely on the car and I'm sure the hill on the way back will put her off. Can anyone tell me who built the houses? as I am reluctant to buy/consider a cheap build. Also, where is the new M&S going to be? Many thanks

New M&S will be in the petrol station on Rush Green roundabout, more a convenience store really.

Oh, and ignore the SG13 thing. All of Hertford is in the the catchment area of all it's schools and it makes no difference whatsoever to your child's chance of getting first choice. Estate agents invented the SG13 myth to sell the previously less favoured Ware Road end of Hertford.

Foxholse is nice, never had problems since living there.... I've "heard" things that the further you go into the estate the less nicer it is, but I dont know if thats myth or not.

I have recently moved from Cublands, and I found it to be a very nice area to live, pretty quiet, and with a good regular bus service to Hertford/Ware and to the brookfield centre via the free bus provided. But I do agree with the fact the gardens are box's and the kitchen's are really small.
