I take it that many other Bengeo residents will have received a leaflet regarding planning applications in respect of Ware Park Mill in Riversdale. If the allegations contained therein (it seems to have been published anonymously) are correct, it would be a gross intrusion into the area. There are details in the leaflet about how to register objections which must be received before Monday 20th October. (Sorry Admin, accidentally placed this on the wrong thread, can you relocate if for me please)

I think it's where the Lee and Lee Navigation meet. If you walk from Hertford Lock along the long straight channel to where it joins the Lee proper, opposite is what's left of the old mill. The five storey building will provide 11 residences, which will no doubt be luxury apartments. There are also applications to convert a garage into a single bedroom dwelling and a barn into a three bedroom dwelling. So, that's 13 residences in total. Will the people that end up living here want all their cars parked in garages? That will require even more development. Sorry Folks. This wasn't meant to be anonymous. The posters and flyers were created by the residents at Riversdale who are strongly opposed to a development of this scale. The posters state the 20th October as the dead line to submit any objections. You can actually do this up to 24th October. This development could consist of a luxury 5 storey apartment block, an conversion, 4 residential moorings, a Cafe, a studio apartment and a boat house. The access to these properties is via a single track lane which is owned by the residents. This development could make this lane very dangerous for not only the residents but the walkers, cyclists, joggers, horse riders and children that currently use the lane for recreational persuits!! PLEASE OBJECT and help us to preserve the rural, safe character of Riversdale at Ware Park!!! Many many Thanks...........................

I meant to say that there are lots of posters around town and on Hartham and the Meads. You can object by e-mailing East Herts Planning at: [email protected]. Quoting reference 3/08/1384/FP. If you need a leaflet that are a couple of pouches full of them outside the 2 houses immediately either side of the proposed development at Riversdale................ You can access the lane by going to the bottom of Ware Park Road and turning right along the dirt track (just before the road turns to the left up to Ware Park Manor.) I hope this helps.......... As for the anonymity issue, it does seem to me to be basic communications skills that if you put up (ie publish) posters, you provide some indication as to who you are and include contact information, ie who you are speaking on behalf of and what authority do you have?

The point of the posters was to increase awareness and advise of best course of action which was to go to EHDC to object by 24th October. All the info required was detailed on the posters and flyers. Extra copies of which can be obtained from outside the houses along Riversdale................

Hi Newfy, as the closing date for comment has now passed do you think the posters will be taken down? I've seen them from the Woolpack in Hertford, all the way to near the Carmelite Monastery in Ware; with the laminate and MDF I don't think they will degrade quickly!! And I nag my (County) council to take down old of date notices too :-) Please can you post the outcome of planning decision on this forum? Many thanks.

Your point is very valid and I can assure you that they will be taken down. We have left them up to continue to create awareness. There is an East Herts District Council mtg to discuss the planning application on either 19th Nov or 17th Dec. This meeting is open to the public. Once a decission has been made I can assure you the notices will be taken down!!!

I have just received three emails from EHDC planning regarding applications in respect of Ware Park Mill. They stated that with regard to (a) Garage conversion.........Refused (b) Barn Conversion...........Refused (c) Workshop..................Refused Apparently the decisions were made last night.

Yes this is correct!! We are pleased to say that 4 out of the 5 planning applications have been refused. This includes applications for the residential moorings, Barn Conversion, Garage conversion to dwelling plus studio and erection of boathouse for use as studio/flat/workshop. This leaves the MAIN planning application (for the Mill and Mill House Restoration to a 5 story block of flats) still to be decided. Due to it's size it has to go to the East Herts District Council Committee mtg which we have been advised will be heard at the agenda on 17th Dec 2008. (Venue TBC) This mtg is open to the public if you wish to attend. One of the residents from the area has been given a 3 min slot to convince the council not to grant permission for the flats.They obviously include other factors as well..... The dead line for objections has now past but any support on the 17th Dec will be gratefully received. I will post the exact details of the meeting as soon as I have received them! Committee meetings are normally held at the Council Office (Wallfields); and there are ordinarily 3 slots to speak (one would be reserved for applicant). Slot needs to be booked in advance and you can't go over 3 minutes; I have very rarely at any council seen councillors accept comments from the 'general public' but it is good to show a presence.

Sorry Buzz!! I got confused as to who said what?? We will take the posters down though and the info about the 3 min slot and the general public not being able to speak is correct...........I just feel the more people that show up to support even if they can't speak does help to illustrate interest in the planning application. I'll update the site when I know location and time of meeting on 17th Dec.[:)]
