Very strange. Just spoke to a friend who said that he had heard that a boy who had assaulted his son recently had been stabbed at the fair last night.

Wow!! "A number of officers were deployed to the scene and closed down the fair in stages and special powers were issued to officers to allow them to search individuals". Special powers to search individuals?? I remember running home one night when it was raining (I was 23). Police turned up as I 'looked suspicious'; legs spread, pocket search, no problem as I hadn't done anything, however a fella matching my description had broken into a shop in the town. I accepted the inconvenience, albeit wet, but still accepted it. That's the job they have to do. Now, 20 years later, an officer paid by us to protect us and our kiddies "was then surrounded and assaulted by the group and suffered injuries to his hand, which required treatment." Is it me, or is this current left wing nut-job waste of time government regime not 'in power' at all?

Does anyone else feel that the word "unacceptable" just doesn't convey enough feeling? My homework when I was at school was "unacceptable" stabbings are far worse than "unacceptable" I suppose because it is a multisyllabic word its users think that they sound articulate, please excuse my Saturday night ramblings.

It says the 'assault' on the PCSO is 'unacceptable' , it doesnt say anywhere that 'stabbings' are 'unacceptable' , although i agree with your point . So was there a stabbing or not ??

I was speaking in general terms not about this incident. My point is that the word unacceptable doesn't convey the outrage, what they should say is THIS IS F*****G DISGRACEFUL.!!!! Again I apologise to those of a sensitive nature, words mean a lot to me

Agreed, the actions of the youths involved were absolutely disgraceful - but, am I the only person thinking, "Why on earth was a PCSO dealing with this kind of incident in the first place?" Barely trained, poorly equipped, it sounds like the guy was out of his depth in this kind of situation. This was an incident for the POLICE to deal with. The sooner the powers that be come to their senses and see that one proper, fully trained, police officer is worth far more than any number of cheap substitutes the better. Rant Over

I would have thought a fair being a magnet for troublemakers and anti-social behaviour would have been allocated more Police resources.

was the knife detection system in us at hertford east station? sniffer dogs? etc etc the police did this earlier in the year i seem to remember. think this is a big mistake by whoever is in charge in herts/hertford police. it could have got a lot worse than a PCSO getting a kick in, how bad was it? hope they're ok.

I don't think I ever saw a copper getting a kicking. Didn't hear of it much either, other than riots on the TV and footy violence. All I can say is I'm glad I have a burglar alarm when the fair is in town!!

Is the Police Helicopter black & yellow? If so, it's corrently hovering at some rediculously low level over Eitehr Fordwhych Rise or the edge of Sele farm. It's visible out of my conservatory window without having to look up, that's how low it is. Been tehre for at least the last 5 mons, circling very slowly

It's OK. I just looked it up on teh web and it is the police helicopter (http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/news_info/departments/casu/faq.htm). It's still up there now, so at £600-£800 per hour, that's nearly £400 of wedge some little scrote has cost the tax payer so far
