A question - why did it take so long for the responses to the 'Out of Town' Topic to be removed? They were just getting interesting! Why remove them all? I agree with removing the one where somebody called the owner a name but the others I'm sure were legitimate gripes & referrals to other good establishments

Responses to this thread were removed after 24 hours, during which time I was seeking advice on our position as publishers of these comments. It is a fine balance between free speech and the exposure of Discover Hertford Online to any action that might be taken against us. In the end, I took the decision to remove ALL responses.

sorry admin - didn't mean to start anything. and just to end the topic, you'll be pleased to know my new furniture arrived last night in perfect condition!

I feel the blanket removal of apparant genuine customer gripes about recieving percieved bad service from a local retailer dilutes many aspects of the value of a local website such as this. Postings with specific peoples names and vindictive comment s/b removed, but i believe pulling a whole thread is an overeaction.

exactly my point [:(] plus there were some good referrals to other establishments there. [;)][^]

Bengeobabe, please don't apoogise, it was a good thread. But Admin is clearly aware of the risks the site could be exposed to. The Pub and Restaurant review forums haven't really taken off here (I think they will, in time) but if you look at other websites, including the Knowhere guide to Hertford, which is written by and for teenagers/skaters, some really quite nasty comments have been posted about some of our local pubs, which could be construed as libellous. So how can that website get away with it? Like Frenchie, I don't really see how forums can work as the community resource they should be, if we can't make heartfelt recommendations and frank criticisms of local businesses on this website. But I guess we just have to trust Admin on this, it's his/her job to know the law and what can or can't be published. I do however agree with Frenchie and Smiley that we have lost some useful info with the removal of the thread.

Hi I currently live in West London but will be moving to Hertford soon. Just as a pointer, we have this website which is used by locals to review restaurants and bars/pubs/clubs - it is very well run and has a wealth of info: http://www.lammas.com I have often picked out good venues just by the reviews. Can anything similar be setup for Hertford? Cheers

Admin - Mad Mick seems to losing his cool in certain threads. Why is this?

quote:To be fair, he's been involved in some pretty maddening threads. Mick took a few heavy insults himself. All part of the rich debate. Mr Admin has had a busy time, but I admire his restraint in letting so much run. There's been some entertaining views coming on lately. On the other hand, I've gots lots of fags, vodka and some rather nice cake.[^]

hi all! just thought i would pop up here! to the editing posts forum! I would like to say that in the time i have been a member of these forums that i have enjoyed the banter that i have had with many of you, I would in particular like to say thanks to, in no particular order. Shunt (I like the way you think!) Leo (i havnt run out of fags btw) Herbert (possibly madder than me) David Yates, (you know who you are!) Fishwife (youre great!) James007 (for noticing!) plover (great sense of humour) sheila w heel (obviously an anarchist!) and and leicester (though i dont ALWAYS understand where youre coming from!) and all you other great conversationalists out there that i have had the pleasure of crossing swords with. I appologise if anything i have written has been found offensive. It was not my intention, but merely part of my make up! Have fun and thanks again. Go Ahead Steve...Edit Away!!

Not sure if Mad Mick is leaving - but Mick, stay..........

I'm very sorry to read that you're considering leaving. I have enjoyed reading your posts, and responding to a few. Shame about the BMW but we can't all be perfect. I think it's important to have a wide variety of opinions and views and would say that I have only seen frustration in your posts - with the topic or the view, but surely that's what makes the world go round? I have never found you to be offensive, and you certainly have never gone out of your way to target anyone! Please reconsider, have a rest, polish the tooty car, recharge the madness batteries. Don't go....[:(]

reading between the lines of mad micks previous posts on various subjects, i think that he may have thought he was being rather strictly censored? I may be wrong and if he does still read the posts i hope he responds

Is it permissible to delete a post immediately after posting, and re-post without all the mistakes that one only ever sees when it's gone live [:I] or would you rather we just edited the post?
