Food quality - 4 Service - 4 Atmosphere - 4 Facilities - (unknown, didnt use them) Value for Money - 4 Visit on Tues 15th July / 7pm ish. We couldn’t be bothered to choose from the extensive menu so went for a set menu (as it seemed good value for money). All the food part of set menu 'B', appetisers, followed by duck, followed by 3 dishes were yummy, nothing bland or boring, better quality then Paddyfields or wok-u-like. service was quick and polite but there were only a couple of others in the restaurant with us at the time. Nothing to complain about, would defiantly visit again one day.

We used to go here a lot but not so often now due to extra family members. When we do go they remember us by name and the service is superb and very fast. (We have to ask them to slow down) The house wine is as good as any and the mixed hors d'ouvres are great. Toilets are a bit dingy but everything else gets top marks! Would use this chinese restauramt every time above any of the others.

Totally agree Richie! Sam the Manager is superb, and like you say remembers customers names....not only that he also remembers what you usually like to drink as well! (But don't tell too many people, otherwise might not be able to get a table next time!)

This is the only chinese restaurant Clan Fandango use now. Take aways or eat in, very good.

Hadn’t eaten here for years. And am asking self why. Had opportunity last night for a pal's birfday ( HB Hils) & resisted the temptation to post when I got back, on the basis that a sober , albeit hung-over review, was better that one fuelled by the White Horse & the Barge. Quite exceptional meal in terms of simplicity & quality. 18 of us well fed for £26 per head & although my compatriots may now post with indignation I got away with 2 starters, 2 main, rice & most of a bottle of (quite decent) house red. As I have just posted on another forum my experience with Chinese food is somewhat limited in that I’ve never been east of the Med or gone to the States, but I have eaten in just about every China Town in Europe & feast frequently (weekly!) at those in the UK. This was the best. Without doubt. Using the forum scoring system… out of 5 Food quality – 6 (yes it goes all the way to eleven..) Service - 4 Atmosphere - Hmm... how do you measure. I was with chums (possibly those near us would have given 1...) Value for Money – 5 Well that’s my next few takeaways paid for… :-) Now to praise the Ram & to hit the White Horse at lunch for Nigel’s Goulash .. Must go I’ve got 26 miles to run…[:p]

Well, we've been regulars at the Peking House since we moved to Hertford (actually not that long ago, ahem) and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently excellent, however busy the restaurant is - and some restaurants (mentioning no names) seem to struggle to maintain standards of quality and delivery when they are entertaining a large group, or suddenly get very busy of an evening. Not this one though, and C. Piglet will surely be forgiven for the excess of his ordering by his compatriots, some of whom were observed to be helping him out of his embarrassment by helping themselves. Excellent night out btw! There is also an excellent choice for vegetarians, which is greatly appreciated by yours truly, as any choice at all is rare in other Chinese restaurants unless you happen to be in a Chinatown somewhere in a big city. The service is attentive and friendly without being fussy, and if, as a vegetarian, you would like a meat-free equivalent of something that is on the menu, it doesn’t seem to be a problem at all (check out deep fried tofu in satay sauce with mixed veg: not on the menu but yummy!). So to the ratings: Food quality - it has to be a 6! Service – 5 Atmosphere – 4 (very welcoming, but drops a point as the music and décor errs on the slightly unimaginative side, in my view – okay, some folk like it that way) Value for money – 5 Highly recommended!

First time at Peking House for a few years (we tend to use Paddyfields) and it was absolutely fine. Rather brisk service on Saturday night but the food was as good as ever. One interesting find. They have a waitress with personality!! She fell in love with my mobile phone and gave us a lovely story about why she wanted it. We couldn't really understand the story but it was a charming moment of relaxation.

I think we might have met the waitress you mention. Went to the Peking House a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night when it was very busy. We had to wait a while for the lobster, but she explained "Lobster swim so quick, chef have to chase it long time to catch!" As always food good, and despite being so busy, Sam the Manager, remained impeccably unflappable!

I hope you mean Mary the Deputy Manager. She made my 40th Birthday very special when I had a party with many family and friends there. She's also great with my children who always refer to a trip to PH as "going to see Mary" a nice establishment and won my business about 5 yrs ago from Paddyfields when they went downhill.
