I see from today's Mercury than Cllr. John Hedley has been suspended for three months on account of his abusive behaviour. Having witnessed his "behaviour" first-hand on several occasions I'm surprised that it has taken so long for this to happen. And it's not only his colleagues on the council that have to suffer this obnoxious little man's rudeness. Zero patience and zero respect. He is indeed a disgrace to his office.

He has been suspended for three months for being abusive to staff and fellow councillors - three complaints in total. One of the charges describes him shouting at administrative staff in the reception area of The Castle. On another occasion he made abusive telephone calls to a fellow councillor and made personal and degrading comments about his wife and other councillors.

I see he is also on EHDC but as the complaints about behaviour relate to the town council, he can still carry out duties at EHDC without restriction. One might have thought that a supension from one public office might apply to all public offices

A short while back I decided that I would no longer contribute to this forum for a number of reasons. However, I have been following this thread with more than a passing interest, though more associated with the said councillor's extra-curricular activities rather than his political ones. As the President of Hertford Town Football Club (though who appointed him is anyone's guess!) it appears that he has now switched his attentions to making abusive phone calls to members of the club's committee. Surely even the Tory party must be questioning the logic in having such a loathsome member of society as one of their elected officials?

Is there such as thing as "striking him off" the register of councillors, like you can do with the medical profession? Sounds an odious man, I cannot understand why anyone would think behaviour like this would be a "vote winner".

I guess the "ballot box" is where the "striking off" will be. After seeing yet more on MPs expenses on the TV news last night I am beginning to wonder if any of us need politicians or whether we wouldn't be better off employing the WI Ladies and have meetings with tea and lovely cakes all round being served!
