Nice to see East Herts has made it into the top 20 places to live in Britain in the Somerfield sponsored Quality of Life Index. The index works out the scores based on income, job security, health, fear of crime and level of debt. Interesting that none on the other bordering Herts boroughs made it in the top 20. Top 20 1. Hart 2. Wokingham 3. Surrey Heath 4. South Bucks 5. Chiltern 6. Elmbridge 7. Tandridge 8. Waverley 9. Mole Valley 10. Uttlesford 11. South Cambridgeshire 12. South Northamptonshire 13. South Oxfordshire 14. St Albans 15. Epsom and Ewell 16. Mid Sussex 17. Horsham 18. East Hampshire 19. Windsor and Maidenhead 20. East Hertfordshire

Why do they commission these things? Its the same result every year - South East good, anywhere north of Cambridge crap. Totally predictable and always a big generalisation. For example, Epsom and Ewell? [8)] OK, the likes of John Terry might have a mansion in Oxshott but the rest is awful - chav city and big traveller problems. Theres plenty of places I'd rather live that were not mentioned than live in most of those on the list.

When Kirstie & Phil do their best/worst place sto live in the UK the list looks like this, but most of the places they feature are duller than a dull place on dull street in dull town. Wokingham for gawd's sake..?!?

Thing is, the list will only encourage even more people to move to the areas in question. A good thing if the local infastructure can take it, a bad thing if it can't. Its just like the school lists. People will move to the best areas. The majority want the London salary, but with the rural feel. So the home counties dominate the list.

These are whole local authority areas and there are good and bad bits in most. After all the East Herts entry covers not just Hertford but Ware,Stortford and Sawbridgeworth too.
