Birchley Green Multi Storey now locked up at night

I was at a gig at the Marquee Club this Friday and to my horror I walked back to the Birchley Green Multi Storey only to find the entrance & exit with shutters down! hmm nice. This was at 11.30 at night. I had to get my dad to come and pick me and a friend up and drive my friend home (25 minute journey) late at night, not amused! Considering I parked in this very multi storey a week earlier and it was open when I came back (again at around 11.30 at night!) When I moved my car this morning (at 7am might I add, yawn!) I noticed that the multi storey has tiny poxy signs telling people that they will lock it up overnight, what a joke. It wasnt very clear to people at all! there were lots of people that got locked in last night, bloody disgrace to be honest :( Fair enough i "should've" spotted these small signs (yeah right) but they could've made it a bit more obvious to the law abiding people like myself :( Not amused to say the least.... Just thought I'd warn you all that they've started locking it up anyways, I think its the same on Saturday and Sunday nights too :/ Cheers Simon

You might want to check this out - from the EHDC website... Tenants welcome quieter nights in Hertford Tenants of Bircherley Court in Hertford will be able to sleep easier in their beds after East Herts Council responded to their petition and agreed to lock the neighbouring multi storey car park at night. The elderly residents of the Riversmead scheme signed a petition complaining that groups of people were racing around Bircherley Green car park at night on motorbikes, shouting and causing a disturbance and treating the car park like a race track. I believe it was covered in The Mercury as well, although I accept that not everyone buys or read it. However, regardless of the publicity at the time, the signage should be conspicuous and clear. The only way to get the council to make the signs more obvious would be if enough people wrote to them and local councillors to raise awareness.

The problem is, all this will serve to do is displace them.

Sigh, why do the chavs have to ruin it for us law abiding folk? GRR! And your right, they will just go somewhere else, probably to Tesco car park again :/ Would've been nice if a big sign had been put up outside the bloody Multi Storey!

Curious that closure is seen as a correct response. If the "motorbikes" were as the ones I've seen in the other multi-storey, they are powered skateboards and go-peds. Such things have always puzzled me. Why do adults buy their children something for which no legal use exists?

Thing is... a massive business opportunity exists to open a dedicated 'racing' centre where they can go make all the noise they want, legally. But that's probably be pointless, precisely because it wouldn't be illegal

Same reason they take their kids to Archers Spring to race motorbikes - because they don't care.

Do they buy them though, or do they simply provide the money for their children to buy them?

All I know is that I was mightily annoyed on Friday. There were people that had to get a cab all the way to Royston....hmm. Sigh :(

I sympathise Simcut. This is ridiculous but I am afraid is symptomatic of the disgreard of the mindless few for the normal lawa abiding citizen and how we have to suffer for their stupidity. I think you should try and claim back the cab fare if these signd are not clear or well placed? I park there at least one a week, albeit in the day, but have not seen these signs.

They are small yellow signs in front of where you park, but they are not exactly very clear.... when people normally park in these car parks they have family or friends with them and they wont necessarily be drawn to the signs, especially if you reverse into the space as you wont be facing the signs. Me or my friends did not have to get a cab to Royston, there were a group of 3 people who had to get the taxi, felt sorry for them to be honest, must've cost a lot of money. I've just sent an email to a member of the East Herts Council and am awaiting a reply. Just spoke to a mate of mine and one of his other friends had his car stuck there overnight and was given a fine when he collected his car the following day, unbelievable!!!! What annoys me is this 'closure' does little to help solve the issue of the little chavvy gits causing trouble in the town. They will just disperse to somewhere else and cause problems there instead, when is this going to end?? I'm glad for the residents of that area of Hertford that they dont have to put up with the noise anymore but this has peeved off law abiding people in the community, where are we meant to park now? no doubt in the other multi storey, which the 'idiots' will probably move on to next. How long I wonder until that car park gets shut at night somehow! To say I'm miffed on this is an understatement, but I'm even more miffed now, I noticed that the story pasted in this thread was advising people that this change would occur in October 2007, then why, when I parked in the Car Park on Friday 29th Feb, was the car park unlocked when I returned to my car?? Thats really really wound me up! :(

Had a reply from the council, havent properly reviewed it yet, but they did tell me that there was more signage than I had mentioned. So I apologise for that. thing is though, there were like 15-20 cars in the car park that would've been stuck in, so I'm not the only one :)

Have you asked them why the issue with the scumbags and racing their cars has not been addressed rather than shutting a public car park overnight? Oh no I forgot, it is easier to take the soft option and penalise ordinary people like us Shunt. Bet my Council tax goes up though. Wenkers.[:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]
