Road closures at Accident spots..
I've noticed recently that everytime there is an accident on the roads, the whole road is closed? ... why is this?.... is it new health and saftey gone mad?....

possibly; I heard something recently about highway patrols (not the police but the traffic patrols) dont get out of their cars now until the road not just the lane is closed..

Who ever is first on seen (police, HATO or even fire brigade) have a duty to make the scene safe. Usually that means stopping the traffic dead. If it then transpires that the incident is serious or fatal, then the scene is treated as a potential crime scene until it has been investigated.
No one takes any pleasure from closing roads (god knows I've shut the M25 enough times) but it is a genuine necessity

Hato ... but is it a new requirement? ... it's just seems that roads are closed at the drop of a hat recently causing major headaches for the public?

As Hato said, if there is any chance (and there always is) that it is a crime scene, it has to be closed off to the public until they can be sure it isn't.

Its a tough call, but I don't blame them for shutting the road. The fire Brigade do it all the time now, even on minor incidents.
You only have to look at death of the fireman on the A1 at Stevenage the other month to release they can get killed in what looks like the safest conditions.

It's nothing new, it's always happened, it's just that because there is more traffic now, it backs up quicker. The M25 during peak times backs up at a mile a minute.
My colleague was injured on the A1 where the fireman was killed. They were standing on the hardshoulder dealing with a routine car fire when they were struck by another vehicle.
