Trafalgar Day
A day late I know, but I was waiting yesterday to see if there was any mention, either on radio, television, or in the papers I read that yesterday was Trafalgar Day. I personally think it's rather sad that we forget some of our country's history...........and before anyone asks what the Hertford connection is........well, we do have a Nelson Street.

I wouldn't say that it is sad that we don't remember each historic event in this country every year - there are probably enough for one a day. If you remember two years back we held the 200th anniversary celebration of the battle of Trafalgar which was well worth seeing!

Didn't go too well for the local hero, did it! At least he took it all pretty well, looking to the future, rather than dwelling on the what ifs. Listening to Lewis and the rugby boys and you feel quite proud to be a humble British loser.

Although it may not have gone too well for Nelson, I seem to recall his side won

Was taking down the cross of St George flags after the rugby when I realized the notable date.
I do think it should be a national holiday. Am fond of telling grockles (as we call them in Dorset) that Hardy's Monument between Weymouth & Dorchester (well Portesham) is in fact named after the Captain (later Admiral) Nelson’s Flag Captain(Kiss me /kismet Hardy fame) not the poet (& just to add some superfluous info, the great, great uncle of Oliver Hardy...!)
