Charitable Christmas/greetings cards for Hertford

Calling all budding photographers in Hertford… The Richard Hale Association is the Old Boys’ Association of Hertford Grammar and Richard Hale School. At the present time we are exploring ways in which we could support the school more, including raising money for specific projects. One fundraising project that we may consider is the publication of Christmas/greetings cards. Since the school is the town’s oldest educational institution (founded in 1617), and thus shares a common history, one idea might be to publish a range of cards with high quality landscape photography from around Hertford. In order to do this, we would need the help of Hertford residents (whether they have a connection to the school or not). Are there any supporters of Hertford Online who would be prepared to go out and about with their cameras and take as many photographs of the county town as possible? I obviously post at this time of the year because Christmas cards would warrant festive photographs, but we could also consider greetings cards with images from any season. This idea is very much in its genesis stage, but it is hoped that those residents of the town who are connected in some way to the school might be interested in supporting it for that reason, and those who have no interest in the school would be interested in supporting the project in order to see high quality greetings cards available showing off our beautiful town. Are there any photographers who would be interested in helping? Of those of you who are not photographers, would there be a market for such charitable cards? www.richard-hale-association.org.uk

Didn't we have a great selection of nice Snowy piccies from last year? Anyone know where they are[?] There was the amusing one of the upside down lights in Fore Street, courtousy of Mr Yates I think.

Believe it or not Tigger, those photos were from early this year - February in fact!

It'll have probably been the 9th. First time I'd ever been to Hertford - it was a job interview in fact. I'll never forget how nice it looked!

We can pretend. Do we know when the pictures of PENGUINS on commercial cards are taken.

There is almost certainly a market for the cards - there are so many people linked to RHS that it almost couldn't fail. But the trick is to come up with a novel idea that will appeal to the wider audience - rather the like the Kettlewell and District WI and their Calendar Girls (I am not suggesting that you have teachers in various states of undress hidden by items of school equipment, though I'm sure they would sell!) If you do come up with a good idea, it will appeal to a much wider audience and you'll be able to get more outlets to sell the cards. The other thing to consider is that if you are going for the "Big Sell" rather than just a local audience, you have left it too late for this year - you should start planning Christmas 2008 now. Thanks Nora - look forward to hearing from you. As I said, this idea is still VERY VERY much in development stage. An original concept was to have festive photos/pictures from around the school, but I thought it would be more successful to broaden the concept to include the whole of the town. Realistically, nothing like this would have national appeal, but it might catch the imagination of the wider town community. As for timescales, this idea is indeed for 2008, but if we needed images of Christmas (for example) we would need to get this this year in order to be prepared for next...

Haha! That was brilliant. Makes me realise how pretty Hertford is.
