I will be moving to Hertford in a couple of weeks and will be within walking/stumbling distance of the Harts Horns - any views, good or bad on this one please....... or anything else you can recommend within walking distance of Horns Mill Road? "Cheers" A.

quote:If you can walk/stumble/float to The Hart's Horns, why not go a little bit further and try The Black Horse in West Street? Tony and Linda run a friendly and welcoming pub - the food is first class, there's a hidden gem of a garden and apparently the beer is good too! They regularly organise BBQs and food nights featuring dishes from round the world, as well as an excellent weekly quiz and monthly music quiz. Possibly THE nicest pub in town. [;)]

There's lots of excelent pubs in Hertford, depending on what you want from your drinking/eating experience on any given day/evening/night. Have a run through these threads and you'll see that pretty much every pub/bar in Hertford has someone who will say something good about it. Hertford's quite a small town so even though you might live on the outskirts, I reckon you could walk to any of them without too much trouble.

quote:Couple of minutes further on (3 if the lights across the Gasgoyne Way are against you) is the White Horse a thoroughly decent pub, as good as the excellent Black but slightly different.... You may want to come to the 5th Castle Street Party this Sunday & try it for yourself! http://www.castlestreetparty.org.uk Of course none of this helps you with your original enquiry - haven’t been in the Horns for some time but it was pleasant enough when I went in (game of darts as I recall) As Steve says - look at the threads...[8D]

Try the "free to register" CAMRA Hertfordshire pub database. It has all the pubs listed, including those that do not sell real ale [xx(], plus photos and map links. It also much more up to date than other lists. http://www.pubs.hertsale.org.uk/

quote:An ideal place to look for any pub in Hertfordshire. It is updated on a daily basis in some cases. Dobbin is the webmaster for the local CAMRA branch and he in fact built the pub database. Should anyone have any up to date information about any pubs in Herts email contact the webmaster and it will be amended forthwith.

Of course aprescott, this all a bit pointless if you prefer lager or cocktail themed establishments...

It even lists the Wetherspoons in Hertford that hasn't opened yet and the fabled Office Bar that may, or may not, open for business one day! Seriously though, it's a very impressive piece of work - well done Dobbin and many thanks for an extremely useful resource.
