Castle Street Party
Just to let everybody know that they are invited to the fifth Castle Street Party on Sunday 19th August from 12 noon.
Proceeds from the event go to The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).
Entrance is free but you have the opportunity to spend some money on food and drink (barbecue, Thai, afternoon teas, White Horse, ice cream), competitions (including cup stacking and scalextric racing), puzzles and raffle (win a barrel of London Pride or six bottles of champagne or the £2,000 first prize in the NDCS raffle), stalls (books, jewellery etc).
Entertainments include The Green Onions Sound System, Ebony Majorettes, Walking Clowns, children's activities, jugglers, face painting.
There will be animals from Paradise Wildlife Park and, providing they are not needed somewhere else, a fire engine (with added firefighters).
Oh, and there will be a Princess somewhere in the street.
Please come along if you can (and tell everybody you meet!!). We're having a good summer of events this year, from the Bramfield downpour to the Hertfest scorcher and I really hope we can continue to offer regular entertainment for locals and visitors alike.

Just incase - in usual Mercury style they have advertised the Castle Street Party for tommorow - it is actually as CSP's posting - and he should know. Come and enjoy[8D]

Given the weather is the CSP still on today? I was really looking forward to it but it hasn't stopped raining since at least 6 am :-(

Got a bit wet whilst setting up the gazebos, but I reckon for the opening (1200- 1700) not a drop unless it rained while I was getting a beer. Well done Ian; great music ,good company, here's to CSP does the sixer....

Thanks to GillP and all the others who defied the weather and came down to the party.
We spent the morning setting up in the pouring rain, and I was dreading the empty afternoon. Someone said, "Well, this will be the first Castle Street disaster." Some entertainers and stallholders cried off (quite legitimately if they were going to have their stock spoiled or children's safety was at risk). Some others just didn't turn up (they won't be invited back).
Then, 10 minutes before kick-off at noon, the skies stopped drenching us and it brightened up. Despite a reduced set of stalls (we sort of cuddled together) we had lots for folk to see, hear and do. I won't single out any people (you know who you are), but I am so grateful for the stallholders, entertainers and helpers who made the afternoon such a success.
Just as we finished and people were dispersing the skies opened and it teemed down again. Ha!!

Little_P was in awe of the barn owl - it was a shame about the reduced stalls, but the Thai Green Curry was lovely

I enjoy the reaction of cyclists that use Castle Street as part of the National Cycle Network and obviously come upon the Castle Street Party by accident.
