New Website

My wife has just started her own on-line business. She's very excited about it (as well as nervous) and I thought it might be a good idea to post the website on here to allow the people of Hertford a chance to look over it. The idea behind the site is to promote up and coming British based designers only (we have so many products available in this country from worldwide sources that some of our home-grown talents get left by the wayside) and as such she felt it time to help promote these designers. All of the products on the site are from these shores and one of the designers is from Hertford also. As yet, it's in its early stages (only went live Friday night) so any feed back would be greatly appreciated. If you have any friends or family that may also be interested in the site then please feel free to pass the website details onto them. I know it's a little cheeky to advertise this on here but word of mouth is the best way to get her up and running and I felt this is as good a place as any to let the folks in Hertford know about it. I hope you all like what you see and if you do save it to your favorites for any pressies you might need in the future. www.indulgeme-me.co.uk Thanks in advance for taking the time to have a look. Bubba

Thanks for the feedback Furrybunny. I think she was a little worried about how it would go. These things take time though so I'm sure once she's made her first sale she's be all smiles. On a side note - Does anybody know of any decent local magazines to advertise in? She's looking at trying to get in magazines that cover various counties for example:- Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, North London, Middlesex etc etc. Or if anyone actually works for a local advertising company and help/ideas would be great. We've looked into the Limited Edition magazine but are trying to source some others. Thanks again. I'm going to have to get her to join the forum also I think.

Good website - although it's in the same market as our friends down the road with a bricks and mortar site - but as for advertising.. Well my gut reaction would be to try some PR first, as advertising, unless you can measure the response accurately is very expensive. The Hertfordshire titles and Axis, based in Ware, would seem to be a good place to start. But good luck, and if you want some decent contemporary wall art to add to your portfolio, I'm sure we could oblige[:)]

Nice design and layout but it took me a few moments to spot the "contact us" link hidden up at the top of the page. It maybe needs to be more prominent or moved to the side of the page where the other navigation links are?

Axis mag works really well for us. Also, you might want to contact Mary at Highlights Magazine - small scale but covers a huge area, also really good rates. Her number is 0845 0940394 Good luck - the site is gorgeous [:)]

Thanks for the feedback KittyKat. My wife is going to get in contact with Axis magazine about advertising in there as well as some others. Would the Mercury be worth using?

Only if you like to have to bang your head against a brick wall when it comes to : - trying to be given due notice of when the deadlines fall - having to repeat and repeat font, size, colour, position etc - providing the text you want in a word format so they can cut and paste (most times this process removes/changes formatting to the text) and not accepting a jpg - being willing to give up your corporate branding colours as they have decided on a pink/blue/other theme for the page - not being allowed to contact the "designers" direct and having to go through a 3rd party meaning delays and confusion trying to get your costly advert correct (my personal opinion as a designer is that their designers need a proper design education) - repeatedly asking for the advert size to be given in human-speak and not journalist sizes meaning you've got no real clue about what size advert you have this month - paying up front (your sales contact will come round in person for payment) with no recourse - spending ages carefully crafting words to fit into the space alloted only to find out that they've changed it - rarely getting to see a final proof because despite all promises to the contrary you are not told about the deadline until it's too late enabling them to make a unilateral decision on what your advert looks like We don't advertise with them any more.

Ouch Mr. P !! Which draws me to the conclusion that 'Hertford Online' would do very well if they had an 'Adverts' page (not jsut banner ads) where local businesses can advertise their wares? ..... I'm sure this site has a big enough 'readership' now?

Good Idea Azza. I'd pay to advertise on here for sure. So the Mercury isn't the best of ideas then....

I think furrybunny had the best idea with regards to the Mercury, send them a press release (with pictures if you can)! Better than any advert.
