Not my favourite place to go for a meal, however I have to soon. Entertaining 3+ vegetarian peeps during the day. Any recommendations please?

The only veggie restaurant/cafe I can think of is Soul Mamas in Amwell End, Ware if it's lunch you're looking for. http://www.soulmamas.com

Pizza Express is very good for veggies, as is the Thai Restaurant on St Andrew's Street. I've been vegetarian for years, and in my experience vegetarian restaurants are not great. It's always best to go to a restaurant that just happens to serve meat-free meals if you see what I mean [;)]

I am surprised there isn't a call for a vege restaurant, but, as someone who worked in London, The City as well as in the West End, the proportion of vegetarian restaurants, considering the size of the place, was really small. You mentioned all large cities where you have eaten well, not small market shire county towns in your post. Hertford is not London nor Dublin and its taken until about 5 years ago to even have the restaurants and some of the eating places that we do! Its a relatively new experience! Sorry that you are having trouble but I think the suggestions of using the Thai restaurant are good. You forget that some of the chefs in some of our establishments may also be vegetarians by nature of their religion, so it doesn't seem fair to say you cannot trust the food they are using for a vegetarian dish. Perhaps give a few a ring and you might be surprised....

Most curry houses worth their salt will offer a great range of veggie dishes. So you can watch your friends eat their lame bland insipid veg stuff while you tuck into a huge chicken jalfrezi. Job done!

The chinese in Fore street next to shahenshah have a good extensive veggie offering - they even do a quorn style 1/4 crispy duck and pancakes !

Lussmanns have had some interesting vegetarian options at times, but I always think it a shame that their standard menu veggie option is sphaghetti with tomato sauce rather than a more interesting pasta with a more interesting vegetarian sauce.

As a life long veggie myself I find its now just as easy to go to a 'normal' place and have the veggie option as most places do them now. It's not such a problem now is it used to be. The only real advice I could give you James is to check out the menu option of places you know you like and do good food, if they do some veggie options as well I can't see you going far wrong. Of course this is supposing the are veggie and not vegan as that can be a little more tricky.
