Ok got the low down, from Dad as he remebers it, the BWMC use to have a "nissen" hut on the site where they are now and paid a peppercorn rent, they also owned the allotments where the new part of The Avenue and Lys Hill Gardens stand now, know as the Onion Patch. In those days The Drive was only partly built, the Onion patch started there. They were offered the land where the club stands but couldn't afford it so my Grandad and another getlemen persuaded them to sell the "onion patch" so they could buy the club land. At least that is what I am told, the "onion patch" sold for £100,000 and was featured in national papers "onions growing on gold dust!" The land behind the Co-op belongs to the Co-op but the access would be too difficult I suspect to make any sort of car park there.
