Abandoned Homes
Discover Hertford Online is looking at doing an item on abandoned residential properties in Hertford. We have already identified a number of homes that are clearly run down and have not been occupied for many years. However, we would be interested to hear from anyone who might be able to nominate similar properties.
Ideas anyone?

There is that big old one on Ware road, next to the white Vet building, owned by an old widow I believe that refuses to sell.

A couple of years ago we tried to buy a really big house in villiers which we were told had been empty for years because the owner who inherited it didn't have the dosh to do it up. Take a trip down villiers and if it's still in same state you won't take long to see which one it is.....

Is this a figurative "couple of years". I used to live in Villiers Street myself and there was such a house towards the Ware Road end that was as you describe. When it as finally done up they took out all the gas lighting and put in electricity! Apparently walking through the front door as akin to time travelling back to the reign of Queen Victoria.

Well, don't know if it's same house or not. It was about half a dozen houses down from WareRd on the l/h side and was one of the bigger, three (or four?) floor houses in the terrace.
It's probably been split into apartments now and flogged for about a million quid.....

Theres an old boarded up cottage on St. Andrews Street, roughly opposite the subway entrance, and a row of boarded up houses somewhere behind the Which building.

The ones near the Which office look like they are ready for 'redevelopment' (knocking down!)
There's also the old YMCA 'office' opposite Hill's motorbike shop. It's owned by McMullens (I asked after it some time back)
