2 pages on Formula One Racing , all of which you can read about in the National press . Not 1 word on the rugby club representing our little town in the build up to a huge game away to Clifton . I suppose its easier to cut and paste a few pictures from Mclaren.com than it is to find out whats going on down your local sports clubs . Local newspaper ??

Its not everyday we have a local competing at such a high level and he had a damned good result today after other Brits fell by the wayside. Its disappointing for rugby fans that the Mercury did not give Hertford a mention but I think they were right (I don't say that everyday) to give Lewis Hamilton a high profile article, particularly given that as of today he became the first man to take podiums in his first three Grands Prix.

We all know where he lives , the Mercury tells us every week . My point is if you want to read about Lewis Hamilton and Formula one , the National Press covers his every move . Surely the job of a local paper is to cover the stories the National's dont . Of course we should be proud of him as a local resident , and of course he should get local paper coverage , but not 2 pages out of 8 .

Sorry to disagree C.P. but believe me when I tell you there is in fact much more to HRFC than just the 1st XV worth mentioning should the Mercury wish to print and deserved of space (I am no great fan of the rag). This season at the Club: The 2nd XV won their league. The 4ths(Exiles) came second in their league and won their Cup Final. The 5ths came 3rd in their league. The 6ths won their league on won their Cup Final. The Ladies won their league. The Colts (U19) reached the semi finals of the National Colts Cup Youth Teams in U13, U15, U16 all fared very well in mid table positions in their respective Herts/Middx Leagues in Divison 1 with the U14 team winning in Div 2 and gaining promotion to Div. 1. The U17 were joint top of their Div 1 league but just lost out on being champions by points difference. The U13, U16 and U17 all played in the Finals of the County Cup last weekend with the U16's emerging as County Champions and the U13 and U17 sides losing by very narrow margins. Also this season the we hosted the Canadian National U16/U17 squad in 2 matches and our U17 team beat their Canadian counterparts! And then there is always the Mini's (U7-U12) who have three teams playing in Cup Finals to be held at Twickenham no less. Personally I despair at the amount of roundball coverage but then again - I am biaised ;o)

Lewis Hamilton being a local lad did deserve a big write up. However so do our local teams. The Smikry could have turned it into another story of local interest or extended the sports section - they have the space if they wish to remove stories such as 'man blew raspberry at Pigeon in Fore Street' Opps nearly mis-spelt street but then I am talking Smirkry speak.
