......"dealt with like any other crime" - nothing to worry about there then. I'm so pleased to see Scooby back where he belongs for at least another 31 years.

How nice of the contractors (whoever they were) to do such a nice job of undercoating the wall so that scooby can look brighter than ever [}:)]

Is it a coincidence that Mercury is the nearest planet to The Sun? [:D]

To celebrate the return of this 'doodle' bemuses me. It's sh*te! Scooby Doo is shi*te. The gibbon who scrawled it is (to complete the theme) sh*te!. They should cover the whole facade with health & safety notices. "Danger of Death" is my favourite.

Couldn't agree more. What ugly and aesthetically impoverished lives people must lead, if they think that this messy white outline of a cartoon dog enhances the environment. To argue it is good to see just because it's been there for years is mad. It looks horrible. Did Courtyard Arts do it? They should be ashamed of themselves. [V]

Thanks, Rachel, for being so brutally honest. I will go and contemplate my ugly and aesthetically impoverished life in Marrakech at the end of next month.

Public art will always generate differing opinions (e.g. the Angel of the North which people love or loathe). Marrakech is a beautiful city, Nora, but Hertford has beauty too and it deserves much better than this [:(]

I see what you are saying Rachel, but as graffiti goes it is quite cheerful (personally I like it). The trouble is, if you accept that, you really have to accept other graffiti that looks quite awful, so you are making a valid point. Maybe if Scooby Do has such a following in Hertford, we should make it official and erect a statue of him.

It would be better than that hideous statue of Samuel Stone. If Scooby Doo is graffiti, that statue is fly-tipping.

You're all wrong. You're all so very wrong. I'm right. You're all wrong. The originator of Scooby Doo still sleeps with his mum. I think James007 should make less vaporous replies.

It is very wrong. The creator of Scooby Doo, Iwao Takamoto, died aged 81 in January of this year. Rather than sleeping with his mother I think it more likely that they are both 'resting'.

Either as a cartoonist or a brass rubber, in post-pubescence it's not healthy to sleep with your mum. Yes you can be dressed by your mum or even fed by your mum but not sleep with your mum. Sleeping with your mum makes you do really sh*te grafitti. Sleeping with Uncle Peter makes you use the medium of Tippex to ham-fist Scooby on an abutment.

while I can see that some graffiti is unsightly and needs to be removed - painting over an inoffensive cartoon dog seems like a waste of somebody's time, effort and money. No doubt the drawing will re-appear at some point. perhaps the "culprits" could take their paint and clear off some of the more offensive puerile graffiti under the A10 viaduct by the river.

Nooooooooooo, not again? Scooby has been part of the local landscape for over 30 years. Perhaps it's been painted over by the same people who have complained about the kennels in Fore Street? Does anyone know if Scooby barked?
