New supermarket plans?
I saw on the real ale website (hertsale.org.uk) that there are rumours about a "giant supermarket" being interested in the old McMullens brewhouse building. Apparently, this building is up for sale following McMullens reshuffle.
Anyone know anything about this?
(Postmaster - can we have a a general forum? I wasn't sure where to post this. Ta)

I'm sure this would never happen. Becasue of impact and traffic etc, it would never get planning permission. Central Government make the supermarkets have to jump through many hoops now, so they have given up on large stores in towns.
Thats why they are all starting to open "in town" express stores everywhere now.

You are right about potential traffic problems around there and Old Cross in general. I don't really see how parking can be arranged either unless it is to be a very small supermarket - perhaps just a M&S foodhall type thing. Do we need another supermarket? We already have Waitrose, Iceland and Tescos.
Which building is the "old brewhouse" exactly?

I think the District Council would throw any such proposal out before it even got to the planning stage. It's a complete non-starter in my opinion.
