Trees
Does anyone know if you are allowed to cut down trees if they are in your back garden? Do you need permission from the council? There is a huge tree being cut down right now in one of my far neighbour's garden & it is such a shame [:(]

Yes yopu do if the trunk is over a certain size.
If it is a proffesional cutting it down which I hope it is then I am sure they will have got the relevant permissions.

I was lead to believe that beacuse Hertford is a conservation area if the tree is over 6 foot tall you need to have permission to remove it - which seemsa bit tricky if it's a sycamore sapling as they can get
everywhere.
A neighbour to our previous property cut down all the trees on his garden - which also boundaried onto a pavement - and was consequently visited by the council for a stern chat.
However - if the tree is a probmlem to property foundations it will need to be removed (sadly). It may be removed for shade purposes either in the property's own garden due to negotiations with neighbours. Sad though the removal must be, it's far better than having it pollarded and leaving a telegraph pole of an ex-tree. God, I
hate pollarding! Probably because I love trees so.[:)]

They do look like they know what they are doing so I suspect they have the required permission.
A rather large conservatory has recently been erected & the tree in question blocks out the sun during part of the day, so that may be why the tree is being hacked. Shame (as I love trees) but I can understand their reasons.

If you are worried you can always ring and check but would that cause more trouble tha it s worth if it too late to save the tree?

We wanted to have the tree in our garden cut back last year as it blocked the sun. We had to apply for permission from the council before it could be done, it took a while but in the end it was granted and we got someone in to cut it back.
Was just as well because not long after we got those huge winds coming through that brought down a few trees etc.
