Hertford yobs (new)

Continuing from the Hertfod Yobs thread, have a look at these. These youths think that because they are bored, killing fish with washing-up liquid, running through flower beds in the Castle Grounds and pushing trolleys into rivers is acceptable. You decide. Called 'Video removed for reasons'. Stamping on the shrubbery and flowers in the Castle Grounds. Killing the fish in the Hartham/Meads river with washing-up liquid. Chucking a shopping trolley in the river. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbdJmAs8YB0 A bit of car 'fun', (again). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb6Ezrs-EQQ A bit of arson 'fun'. I wonder where these toilets are? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8tB60vEvgo A bit more Castle Ground vandalism and some arson in Bircheley Green Car Park, carefully entitled 'can't put the real title'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHMupGztDpo And people say boys will be boys? An absolute disgrace.

Environment Agency have been informed Steve due to contamination of the river. Police have been emailed. Awaiting a reply from both.

They said they were aware, and that someone was looking into it. They also said that it was difficult to find these people because they didn't know how long ago all the stuff was done, but I find that irrelevant personally.

Not the same group.... Actually the person involved with all the vids except the reverse drive thru is a girl. the group are mostly year 10. To answer the question who is paz? i know who she is but i;m not going to reveal her name because that is unfair. some of those vids have already been reported on in the mercury. The reverse drive thru isn't illegal (as far as i know) so someone point out what is wroing with reversing down a drive thru? the lazy fat B******s in the US probably do it every day. The only reason you've put it up is to put down the youth of Hertford, try searching hertford again on youtube and get some vids of people getting pissed at the marquee, but then insist that being pissed isn't against the law, well neither is reversing down a drive thru nor pouring bubble bath in a river (although that is out of order) you'd just upset a few people. No town will ever be perfect, there are the helpful people who want to get involved and help the children genuinely then there are people like you who claim they want to help but spew ****e about the youth of their town and spend time looking for more evidence that the town is going downhill (try and do something about it by genuinely giving a crap cuz if everyone did hertford would be perfect) whilst pretending to care without giving any form of support. What side are you on The genuinely helpful side? or the side that pretends to care? because if everyone really cared about Hertford and its youth, the skatepark would have been built a couple of years ago.

If anyone has read the mercury this week, a secondary school teacher proposed that a space should be given for graffitti artists to practice their skill and mentions the skatepark, i have no problem with the skatepark being spraypainted on as it would hopefully prevent it popping up in the town, as long as it's good graffiti im sure everyone else wouldnt mind as it doesnt't make any difference if its there or not.

OK - reversing through McDonalds is not exactly crime of the century. I did like the fact that whoever was driving should either brush up on his reversing or supply the poor sod in the passenger seat a gangplank to reach the pay kiosk.

Oh dear! the world is going to end because someone has thrown a shopping trolley at the skatepark! This is getting rediculous, a shopping trolley won't cause any damage, its made out of metal just like bikes. I thought you wanted to help the youth get a skatepark!

It's pretty hard to "vandalise" a concrete skatepark in any other way and almost anything that might done to one could only improve the look. They ain't exactly pretty! A nice Scooby Doo, perhaps........[:D]

I suspect that the "chemicals" will become diluted very quickly if you pour them in the river. Very silly, and may cause some localised environmental damage, but I doubt any serious long term environmental detruction. I did see the video, before it was removed and, yes it probably crossed the line - throwing a shopping trolley in the river isn't big and it isn't clever.

We haven't trashed anything for a very long time, were passed all that (as i mentioned in the old thread.) Yeah i know who she is, big deal! its the same as knowing who lives across the road or your aquaintences at work. You;ve seen them around you know there name and thats it, no different to what i know about paz. I don't have to answer to anybody on this forum, but i choose to despite the opposition. I'm not on spot on the set of Mastermind. I am one of the only connections with these groups on this forum, so if i chose to leave, your connection with us is severed, if we are the ones "trashing Hertford" and you have something to say or want to make a suggestion I'll listen, if it's a really big topic i'll try and stop whatever your unhappy with but if everyone keeps jumping at every possible chance they get to snap at us, i wont be here for much longer. Try giving Support maybe? Give more suggestions? try and give the youth of Hertford support and advice on what we can do to get the skatepark or anything that will keep people out of trouble. Instead of putting us down.

Im afraid i haven't i have been VERY busy with lots of things happening at the moment (GCSE's, Coursework, Social Life etc) so i haven;t had the time, i will pass them on to someone in the skatepark group soon, although i might wait for more info as i heard they are building half now and half later when we get the money, so it would be appreciated if there were more fund raising orientated ideas for now. Back to the original topic of this thread, the videos on You Tube by Paz.......... Whatever daft things I might have got up to when I was of a similar age I was never stupid enough to film them and post them for the world to see. These are just silly kids. It's not big and it's not clever to throw a shopping trolley in the river, we all know that. But these silly children thought it was even worth filming themselves doing it. I think there's a simple course of action here..............the children involved should be identified, and their schools and parents should be informed. They should then be sent to be without any supper. More seriously though.........as they can be identified I think their school or parents should strongly suggest to them that a few hours volunteer work over a weekend clearing the rivers of rubbish would be in their interests.

Spot on Ewoowar, a criminal conviction would do nowt, but after having cleared a stream a sense of 'ownership' would make them think twice about damaging other areas.

As young people mature into adults, and get posessions of their own, they begin to value property and learn respect for other people's property, rather than destroy it without considering the consequences. From the writings of veyron and csproductions, it sounds as if they understand this. I know this sounds incredibly patronising but if we stop and think I'm sure we can all remember at least one occasion when we did something stupid and destructive. At the time, I'm sure we did not consider ourselves to be yobs but the behaviour we exhibited in that instant could probably be described as yobbish. Perhaps the way to punish the 'Hertford yobs' would be to take away their one valued possession - the camera with which they make their films. But what would that achieve? It would probably just breed more resentment. I do not condone criminal damage, arson or vandalism. I don't find it particularly funny. I don't find the films at all funny. I can see why they do it, although I think there are much better and more constructive ways of filling your spare time. But it is highly unlikely that this small group of young people will actually manage to have any lasting physical impact on the town of Hertford by the antics they get up to at the moment. If veyron and csproductions are the worst of the young people we produce in Hertford, we're doing ok. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that there are far worse than these two and that we should be worrying about what happens in the toilets of the popular pubs and clubs of Hertford before we send kids away for filming a few stupid stunts.

I have to agree with everything 2929Paul says above. It sometimes seems as if alot of people reach a certain age and completely forget what it is to be a teenager and adopt an us and them attitude. I cannot condone what was shown in the videos but who of us can say we didn't push boundries during adolescence. There are far worse things that go on - committed by teenagers that don't have the benefit of a camcorder, let alone the intelligence or creativity to use it to effect.

While I agree I have to say that if I had been caught by either the authorities or my parents because my adolescent misdemeanors were filmed I would have to accept the consequences. If I had filmed myself pushing a shopping trolley into a river then however much an @rse I would feel for getting caught I would have accepted having to go back and get the thing out. In addition, being made to spend a couple of hours clearing other rubbish from the area would have made me think twice before I did it again regardless of whether I intended to film it or not.

There has been some interesting recent research (New Scientist and yesterday's BBC News Web site) that during puberty the brain really does undergo some changes. One consequence of that is there is a reduction in the sense of how personal actions impinge on other people.

Time for me to wade in.... I remember EXACTLY what it was like being a teenager in Hertford, we were referred to as "black leather jacketed youths" then rather than "yobs". Believe me, we got up to really stupid stuff as there was b***er all to do here then as well so maybe things haven't changed that much...... Oh wait a minute....... Yes they have....... We didn't go around vandalising things, we didn't think that the 'world' owed us something and we didn't try the blackmail tactic of "Give us something to do or we will spoil the place for everyone else". I was all in favour of a skate park until I saw these threads, I'm sorry but I don't give into intimidation and to be frank why should I care about their boredom if they don't care about showing respect for this place or the other people that live in it?!

But we give the little kids something to do - The Kid's Playground was packed on Sunday (43 and I had a go on the slide - OK I am smaller than most of the kids) The Bigger kid's should get a go of having something, lets just give them a chance to prove it. How much money is wasted on the Town doing useless stuff anyway? From my age you will know I didn't have this and made my own 'entertainment' so Hell give them a chance. I may even invest in a Skateboard and a Taxi to QE11

I'm not sure your hysterical post is worth responding to but I'll have a go. I don't think any of these teenagers has said the world owed them anything and I can't see why you would feel intimidated. I used to think the same as you tigger, until I saw these threads (all apart from buying a board that is....I may be the same age as you but obviously not as fit [;)]). Now I think these people just vandalise stuff and video it to make their "Give us what we want or else" point. All it has made me do is make a complete turn around on the whole subject. I do think arkwright was right about making them clear up their own mess. Perhaps then......and only then, the skate park could be built using money from the authorities and labour from the very people that want it. If they voluntereed to build it, it would stop them getting bored, give them a certain satisfaction in a job well done (something all too lacking these days) and give them the sense of ownership that arkwright mentioned. You never know they might even gain/earn a little respect along the way too!

Thanks for that Steve.... I'm not Hysterical just more than a tad ticked off that people think they can get away with this sort of behavior and then get what they want from the community. I do not feel intimidated myself.... but I do feel that some of these people are trying to get what they want by intimidation. I have to agree with Gemipicorn, it does appear that they think if the cause enough havoc they get what they want just to "shut them up". Yes we were all teenagers once, some of us longer ago than others and there was never anything for us either but we never resorted to the kind of behaviour now being displayed either legally or illegally. I never remember anyone in earlier years destroying hedges etc in the castle grounds so why should we accept it from the current youth just because they don't have the "skate park" they seem to think they deserve. Surely there should be some respect for other peoples property and communal spaces.

I think that reponse is a little unfair Steve. From the comments I read, some of these things have certainly been implied. I'd have to agree with Gemipicorn on this. Sadly, they may be losing more support than they are gaining. I found the videos funny, and I found the whole thing a bit of a laugh, you’ll see on the previous threads that I was very positive with the pranks. But they have lost my support with the general attitude, which is increasingly coming across like a typical stereotype of someone with a big chip on his shoulder, who is making excuses for his behaviour. There is no link between the choice to vandalise (dressed up as "bored" and “fun”) and the desire for a minority participation skate park. But they have implied a link simply justify the actions.

So I'm not alone then?! That's good! So much more eloquently put than me too, thanks guys. The bluntness (which can be taken as hysteria) is the inbred Hertfordian in me **twitch, twitch** [;)]

2929paul captured what i try to say exactly. People will always disagree with us and you have every right to, we haven't done you any favours. When someone said "Yes we were all teenagers once, some of us longer ago than others and there was never anything for us either but we never resorted to the kind of behaviour now being displayed either legally or illegally." things have changed, we have viral videos of this sort of stuff floating into emails every day, you didn't have jackass (which to anyone who finds it funny will imitate despite the warnings) we have Dirty Sanchez, The dudesons, The Tokyo Shock boys and many others, all of these sucessful TV shows and movies. It's just like your sons and daughters worshipping the even less deserving David Beckham and Wayne Rooney (who appear to have less sense than the people in jackass) because they will imitate there idols. Go ahead and critisize me for including some of these guys as my idols, but chavs have worse idols mainly the blinged out Gangsta Rapperzzzzz who go around pistol whipping anyone that says "hi" which in turn causes the chavs to get aggressive with anyone who looks at them. I think some of you are forgetting that by not providing a skatepark for kids in hertford you are denying future generations aswell. and even now we are a very small minority of people in the area that want it I'd say about 5% so there is a whole 95% of people who want it aswell. I dont expect many people to agree with what we did but i guess we can't change that. At least some of you had a laugh. The main thing that spurred us on was support from friends, if you look past all the adults that disagree which is pretty much all of you and go into the classroom or around any secondary school in Hertford and ask a few people that have seen any of the videos and i guarantee most will say it's funny and they want to see more Not forgetting the few that way back in Jan last year said they wanted to see more vids after we were in the paper for the first time.

Just because your friends spurred you on and you have so called "idols" that do similar things and some p[eople find it "funny" still does not make it right, it is still vandalism that somehas to pay the price to clear up /put right . One day it will be you and your friends.

Since when have i ever said what we do is right. And some of us already do so in essence we are paying for what we do (although we havent done anything for a very long time)

Well i'd say its bloody obvious that we know we were doing bad things because ive admitted it several times before (if you would care to read.) Though the same principle doesn't stop people speeding which kills unlike our activites.

You choose to forget the film clip of the car taking off on the hump back bridge then.

Like i said those clips are fairly old now. we don't deny doing them, we know it's stupid. but that didn't stop us, i don;t know why. Maybe because we wanted something cool to show mates.

Veyron - just a quick question. Do you think that if the skate park is built, then these videos will stop being made? I know that you can't answer for all the various groups, but would like to know your opinion. [?] From my experience (and the dusty videos in my parents' loft), those kids who are really into skating / BMX etc will be filming themselves doing that. Whether they have to travel to do it, or just chance the traffic! Whereas those who are more into filming / Jackass / stunt video culture will be filming their mates igniting their groins / running into walls etc. I just wonder if the skate park is a separate issue from these videos.

Good question, i can't really say if the videos will stop being released. We've already been toning down what we film to a more friendly apporach, most of the videos that have been mentioned are quite old now and we've already made a change (just people are acting as if its brand new and up to date when infact we havent done that stuff for quite some time)but i'm sure there will be skate and BMX videos although we will probably continue to film something else aswell to stop the skatepark getting old before its time. What i'm trying to say is we will probably always be releasing videos skatepark or not but we will not give specific focus on the skatepark all the time. Off camera though im sure many of my friends and myself will use it.

Don't know how, but we all have views about this subject let's get together and work the way forward - anyone interested?

Thanks Veyron - it's good to have your perspective on this. It's also good to hear that you've toned down some of the videos - you can do a lot of creative work without being destructive. So to me, and from reading comments, it seems that the skate park and the videos are a separate issue.

In that case, please don't let the actions of few spoil something that many want!

The 'terrible crime' - Teenagers jumping into bushes and video'd and put onto You Tube. The Sun has just caught up with this new news. They discovered this in Dorset. At least we know they are not following us around.
