Well, seeing as no-one has started this subject, I'll have a go! I want a cinema in Hertford. Any problems with that?

The issue of where to put any cinema is not really the point. The old council depot in Mill Road was virtually offered freely to any operator willing to put a cinema on the site. Plans were drawn up on two separate occasions for a cinema on the site and twice the operator pulled out - on the second occasion AFTER planning permission had been granted. The sad fact is that no cinema operator is interested in coming to the town as we are regarded as already being in the catchment area of four cinemas in Harlow, Stevanage, Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield. Whilst there may be a demand, it's simply not commercially viable enough in any form. Many people have put alot of effort into bringing a cinema to Hertford, but two serious projects have collapsed, which suggests that it would be unlikely that a cinema in Hertford would succeed commercially. And I would rather live in Hertford and travel to a Cinema than live in any of those towns.

In reply to furrybunny's comment about the County being art nouveau style,I feel I should point out that the County would have actually been in the art deco style. A good example of which can seen at the old Addis factory.
