Tower behind Beane River View

Took the wee fella a walk yesterday and opted for the path that goes down the back of Mill Mead School playing field that you access from the Port Vale car park. Because the leaves are off the trees I noticed for the first time an old, very old, tower/folly type thingy just behind the sheltered housing development. Frankly my first impression was to feel a bit silly because I've lived for over 7 years barely 500 yards from the place. I'm still amazed I hadn't noticed it before nor heard anybody mention it. Does anybody know what it is/was? Of course there's always the potential for this to be my own personal 'Brigadoon' and to find I saw it on the one day in 100 years that it's visible.

Thanks Ewoowar - First I felt silly for not noticing the Tower before, now I feel silly for not reading the effin' manual.

Always wondered whats inside that tower ever since I was a kid. Back then it was surrounded by trees and looked really creepy!

It does almost completely disappear from view in the summer. Went looking for it last year after the article on here prompted me.
