SG14 Schools
Estate agents for Hertford refer to "the favoured SG13 school catchment area". Is there an equally good chance of sending your kids to a good primary and secondary school if you live at a SG14 address?

Half of Hertford is SG14, certainly most of the town centre. The estate agents would presumably be happy to explain if you ask them but I guess they are referring to secondary school admission and the fact that Sele school is SG14 and the oversubscribed Simon Balle and Richard Hale schools are SG13. I’m SG14 and my kids and all the others on our street got into Simon Balle so I personally think ‘the favoured SG13 postcode’ is a red herring, just an example of estate agents’ hype. Catchment areas aren't quite that simple - see the school admission info on the HCC website.

I think the boundary is Gascoyne Way so the Scools on Richard Hale side are SG13 those on Bengeo side are SG14

"Favoured SG13" in estate agent language often means "a bit too far down the Ware Road to be this expensive".

We are SG14 in town centre but close to A414 - previous people who lived here had kids at Abel Smith which is SG13. Some of SG14 is apparently in the catchment for SG13 schools - even if its impossible to get good info on the catchments! I found it difficult to find out even where catchments have been in the past, as I appreciate it is a moving target depending on number of kids of the same age wanting places, sibling rules, distance to school etc.

Secondary admission rules are not based on postcodes either. After the first 3 rules they are based on "administrative parishes".
So after places have been allocated under the first 3 rules (special educational needs, social needs, sibling) places will be allocated to each parish....in proportion to the number of applications made. In the event of there being more applications than places available to a particular parish... Places will be allocated first to children living nearest the school. Hence the SG13 thing.

i live in SG13 and my son didn't get into simon balle so you are not always lucky
