Rubbish in the streets

This is the sight that greeted me on the way home from the pub last night... A large collection of boxes strewn across the pavement outside East Herts Electrical, completely blocking the pavement. I just hope the bin men turn up early.

I remember this scene too - with the notable addition of some geezer lying amongst the boxes taking pictures.

Look at the bottom of the photo Ewoowar, amongst the cardboard where Steve left them. The freebie types that the Sun used to give out to watch films like Jaws 3.

Surely this is a work of modern art highlighting the state of the collective psyche in today's consumer society? I call it 'Rubbish'. Was this collected by the bin men or Charles Saatchi's agents?

I think you got the White Balance a touch off. a shame the shot was taken from so low down, I would have like to have seen how far back the pile of rubbish stretched.

Another form of "Modern Art" if you can call it that and a sad comment on the less than hygienic attitudes of today is the proliferation of chewing gum spat on and stuck to the pavements in Fore Street, in particularly large quantities outside the Baroosh Bar and extending in lessening quantities past Sheffields, Lussmans and HSBC to Marshalls. There is more evidence of this disgusting habit outside The Stonehouse in Bull Plain and again outside The Blackbirds. Apart from serving as a concentrated locations for germs it also serves to disfigure the pavements. Clearly there will not be a return to the times when people would have courteously disposed of used chewing gum, therefore I would think the relevant entertainment establishments, whose clientele I suspect are guilty of perpetrating the unsociable actions, should show an example of community spirit and arrange the regular removal of the gum.

Considering that most of the people queuing to get into Baroosh, Stonehouse and Blackbirds are virtually naked in this cold weather, perhaps it is the very action of masticating that's keeping them warm! I agree - the pavements are a disgrace and I also think the pubs mentioned should do something about cleaning the mess up AND then provide bins for their customers' muck.

Absolutely right, I've lost count of the times I've had to pick gum off the Jnr 60sDJ's shoes, knowing that it has been in somebody's mouth and nearly ended up on the shagpile. It would be a welcome sight to have bins outside the public houses with signs inviting customers to bin gum in them and offering them No Entry if they chose to get rid of it otherwise. You can but dream....

Oh and another thing, well done to the woman at a local service station today who picked up an empty can of Red Bull a man had deliberately dropped onto the forecourt as he got into his car (with the usual mobile glued to his ear) and tapped on his window. He opened it and I overheard her say '”Excuse me, you've just dropped this” to which he replied '”Oh just put it in the bin love” (which was within reach from his car). She stood right up to her full height and I heard her say ‘'No I bl**dy well won't” and put the empty can in the wiper well on his bonnet! Classic! He was still on the phone and went ballistic, calling her all the names under the Sun, whilst launching his car off the forecourt, lobbing the can and looking a complete imbecile in the process! By now she and I were in fits of laughter. Well done that lady for teaching an idiot an unexpected lesson that not everyone tolerates litter louts (and in his case total Richard Craniums – think about it...) [:D]

She is a great Woman. A long while ago a Colleague picked up a Coke can, discarded from a car window and threw it back into the car half full whilst the car was waiting at a junction, the Guy was so shocked he just sat there. Litter Louts should be dealt with accordingly.
