Just wanted to say how helpful they are at Hertfordshire Archive & Local Studies at County Hall, I have been before and got on well but when I went on Thursday they surpassed themselves. Having given up hope of finding what I wanted as the All Saints records I wanted were destroyed in the fire. They helped me find the Bishops Transcripts with the birth of my GGGrandfather and from there the marriage of my GGGGrandparents in Bennington and also found my Grandfather in the Absent Voters list for the First World war which has given me his regimental number etc. So if anyone is doing family or local History for Hertfordshire do go, they have everything you need and will help you find it!
