I have a 1961 Spurs v Sheffield Wed programme; the night they won 2-1 after going 1-0 down and won the League and the programme from the last game of the Double season against West brom that they lost 2-1. Drop them off in the week on my travels; need framing. Better on view than lost indoors. Can have them on long term lease.

Not really. Arsenal fans are severely criticised for using the "Y" word. However, spurs fans are allwoed to use it without comment.

That may be because A***nal fans use it in a derogatory manner?

On a lighter note, you should definitely display the picture "The Cleaning of the Cockerel" which would go excellent in a pub. I have quite a good quality jpeg if you want it and then get it blown up/framed. You can also buy it on the Spurs website as a canvas but it might be cheaper to do it yourself.

I got my information from tottenhamhotspur.com it has it listed as sep 16th at home as well as the whole season it has no sunday games listed on my printout allthough it is only a provisional listing that ticket sounds ace though sorry if the word yid offends but my heart is true to only one army and thats that

Why would Arsenal fans use it in a deregatory manner? Have you ever been to a game at Arsenal? They have more Jewish fans than Tottenham. Arsenal's three most powerful directors are Jewish. You can't have one rule for one set of fans and another rule for other fans.

It is more Chelsea and West Ham who used the term "Yids" as a degoratory term and sang songs about Spurs being on their way to Auschwitz in the 70's. we grew weary of this and adopted it as our name to defuse the bile coming from other London clubs. It is now used in several songs at the Lane and no complaints have been made by our real Jewish fans to my knowledge. I have been to the Library over the last 8 seasons Mr Smith and both sets of fans sing offensive songs to each other. That is when you lot actually sing. Last season you ould hear a pin drop until Mr Henry came on.

The thing is that Arsenal fans would be ejected from the stadium for singing songs containing the word yid. Would Tottenham fans?

No John because it is an accepted name by the football community and is used in several of our songs such as "Yid Army" so not in a derogatory manner but embraced by our fans. We were also warned by your stewards last season not to sing songs about Sol Campbell which I find a little over the top by the way. I feel that you need the banter at football and would not want the PC Brigade getting us nicked for calling the ref a barsteward for example.

So a name that is accepted by the football community is not offensive. What about those people outside the football community? Do they have any say in whether or not it is offensive? Arsenal have a large number of black players and I've heard plenty of football supporters refer to them as a bunch of niggers. How do you think it would be construed if Arsenal fans decided to do as Tottenham fans have done and started refering to themselves as the nigger boys? Don't think that would go down too well. You were warned not to sing songs about Sol Campbell's sexuality because it is deemed homophobic. There is legislation in place. You could have sung whatever you wanted but you would have been breaking the law. Sometimes advice is given to help you.

Maybe not, but it has to do with the use of offensive language on this board. Wrapper, that seems typical of the response of most of the Tottenham fans that I know. I'm not sure whether it is arrogance or ignorance.

As a new Hertford resident and an Arsenal season ticket holder I have to say this 'Spurs pub' thing will certainly make me think twice before going in which is a shame because from what I have read Jayzee runs a really nice pub. Football loyalties can be a very touchy subject (as this thread has already proved).

I find it odd that you want to create a Spurs themed pub next to a train station that is heavily used by Arsenal supporters on match days. With football as such an emotive subject and one that engenders strong loyalties why would you want to decorate it in a theme that will actively deter a section of your custom base.

Not wishing to sound odd Jayzee, but a lot of this memorabilia might be collectors items and I doubt that some would want to give it up for a pub. No disrespect to what you are trying to achieve but with all your land and the proximity of the Hertford North Station, have you considered adapting the car park into something of an attraction of something else?

Pat Jennings lives in Brickendon. The Ardiles clan hail from the Broxbourne area. Gary Mabbutt lives in Brookmans Park. Ian Walker lives near Puckeridge (or at least he did last year). David Beckham lives in a big house. Ricky Villa lives in Argentina, a small country in the south. Seriously though, a sports pub would be a great idea, hosting charity nights, quizzes and events. You would be flooded with people I reckon.
