Cafe Rouge
Is Hertford's Cafe Rouge the worst in terms of service? It takes the staff ages to acknowledge your presence and even longer to bring your order. In the meantime they can be seen laughing and chatting to one another at the bar! Comments on the delay bring blank looks....
We waited so long to be served a couple of weeks ago, despite the waitress clearing our table and knowing that we were waiting to order whilst she chatted inside, that we ended up leaving. Shame really as their salmon salad is great.

Had 3 experiences! Work Crimble Lunch - OK, pre-ordered. Lunch, food OK, eventually, requested bill 3 times, almost decided to go without paying - 4 people significantly late back to the Office. One Rememberance Sunday, obvious place to go for coffee afterwards, Mr T went off to get papers (Jenners - not that close), had chat's to 2 people on the way, returned in time for coffee to be served, and no, they were not waiting for his return. A few people arrived after us and simply wanted Black Coffee, told would be 30 minute wait and suggested they go to McDonalds - not quite the same. The place was 3/4 empty. Surely anyone would welcome the business opportunity November being the type of month people would welcome a coffee/breakfast after standing in the cold. An extra kettle may have been an idea. Not returned, can't take the fun [V]

Certainly, in my experience, the service at CR can be very slow, especially if you're outside. As always, I recommend a complaint to head office as these problems are often a result of poor management at branch level.

I found a recent manager there exceptional. Limited perhaps by the menu placed before him but his service was excellent.

Been there twice & both times had poor food. Service has been 50-50.

I have found Cafe Rouge to be a bit lacking. The food is generally ok, but far too overpriced compared to other places in town. On last four occasions I have been there, they have also be out of stock of quite a few meals, which I find odd considering tehy are a chain.

It seems to me Fish Wife that they take the blurb from their web site literally....
"No hassle, no rush, no skinny- decaff-double-shot-to-go, just a vibrant atmosphere that moves with your moods throughout the day" [:D]
Personally I have not got a big issue over their service, but more than once I've been in there to find the more affordable (cheapest if you prefer) wines are not available and you've got to shell out about a fiver more for their pricier stuff.

Visited last Wednesday with Hubby and 12 year old son.
Excellent all round.
It was really busy......a real mix of customers ranging from an old man dining alone to families and groups of friends.
Food and service really great and at £54 including a bottle of red it was good value too.

Frau Fandango went there recently with the kids. Vowed never to go back for a meal. Poor food/service the culprits. Lots of flies didn't add to the dining experience either.

Current managers seem to be much more on the case than previous ones and the whole experience is made so much more entertaining by several of the staff being on helium, or so it seems.
