Children of The Angel
I strongly recommend this book. It provides a fascinating insight into the life of children who grew up in the slum housing in the area that is now Bircherley Green.
You can get a copy of the book in the museum for £3.50.
Reading it reminded me of accounts of the Five Points area of New York in the 1850's.

There are some wonderful books like it in the museum,one on St Andrews Street etc the Oral History society ones have great nuggets of information, especially for anyone local doing family history.
They really make you think what it was like 100 to 150 years ago.

OH NO!
I told Mrs M about this and she was hotfooting it down their to buy a copy of the children of the Angel. I didnt know that there were more books................this will cost me a few sheckles!

Available at the Museum shop, Eve Sangster's house (25 West Street) and at The Black Horse for a mere £7.99.
It is so interesting and gives such a great insight to all the buildings and the people who used to live in West Street. This also includes Horns Mill by the way.
