Hi, First post so be gentle...! I have read most of the restaurant topics on here and it is interesting to see the various conflicting experiences. I would be interested to know which restaurants people visit most regularly in Hertford, and the reason. NOT necessarily the best or favourite but the most visited. It could be quite interesting, or maybe not, we shall see... No snobbery allowed I like nothing more than simple british/french bistro but this isn't reflected in my answer to the question. Be Honest! I'll start: The Raj - Good food, Great Service, relaxed/casual atmosphere

Ha! Used to be Pizza Express but not any more. (You may have read the PE thread.) Right now, we're doing deliveries, home cooking or our closest...The Hillside.

Probably Pizza Express although I do see it's shortcomings. However, the Veneziana Pizza is unique to PE and I like that! [:p]

Good topic! It puts a different spin on things. I would say Pizza Express or the Hothouse. In there own rights, not the best, but such good all rounders, they get my repeat custom.

Thanks for the replies so far, Pizza Express seams to be making an early dash... I used to be a big fan but recently I always seam to get "the wobbly table"!! Which is one of my pet hates in restaurants!! how hard can it be to quickly check all the tables before you open!!! apologies, rant over! Justin, I would be interested to know where you do eat out regularly, any recomendations (No Bias!)? Also, off topic, I noticed that you have a seafood focus on at The Hillside, how long is it for? I dont want to miss it but will be going away for a few days... Thanks.

If anyone would like to add where they go AFTER dinner for a nightcap, that would be interesting. Im always at a loss where to go for a decent glass of wine at 10.30 that doesnt involve too much queing or loud music... Off topic - please post as a new thread [:)] Admin

On topic again.. LUSSMANS is a fantastic restaurant. Clean, fresh, modern, great atmosphere, fresh tasty food, fine affordable wines, pleasant waiters/waitresses, accessible manager and above all, very reasonable.

Lussman's - great quality of fresh food (for the money), so it makes eating here not a hugely expensive option if I don’t fancy eating at home

lusmanns and the hillside. most of the brands are poor in hertford. elberts-too pricey, waterside-hit and miss but is excellent on a good night.

hi thanks for your interest. the seafood focus you talk about will be all summer and beyond, with there being lobster, oysters, crab, scallops, clams, crayfish etc, at the moment i also have fantastic halibut, bright red sashimi grade tuna, which is tops, cod, but will rotate very often, probably daily. This, for me is the best time of year to eat fish, so lets celebrate it. As for eating out, i dont frequent anywhere in hertford at all, id rather go to london when i get the time.

for a good meal thats not too expensive i have to agree about the raj been going there years now. i have started liking baan thyhita though but it is that little bit more pricy so the raj is still my most visited place definatly.

For me the Hot House, their lamb and chickpeas is absolutely wonderful. I also went to Baan Thitya the other night, and the food was absolutely delicious.

Oddly, during summer, Cafe Rough, but not for it's excellence. I find the service amusing, the cooking always a surprise, even if you've had the same dish before and I am enormously entertained by the explanations of why there are not mushrooms/eggs/whatever on a particular day. Normally we'll giggle through the whole experience. However, there has been an enormous improvement in staff performance of late to go with their friendly demeanour, so maybe this wonderful farce will become a thing of the past.

Pizza Express is looking 'tired' have been there a few times recently..chipped paintwork, pizza on walls (very small..not the walls!))and pock marked floor..needs a good refurb
