Anyone know what happened to Hertford Youth Football Club? They used to have several teams in the 80s and 90s. Are they still going? I can't find any information in The Mercury.

I assume the group of foul mouthed lads in blue and white shirts who I saw there last year are testimony to their survival. I would not encourage a child of mine to join them from what I saw.

Firstly, Hertford Youth used to play in red and yellow stripes. Secondly, which team are you referring to? Thirdly - ASSUME = making an Ass out of U an ME.

We went in and there was a match in progress. I am not sure who was playing. However, just inside the gates there was a small area to the left where some children were playing. They were in identical football kit. It was blue stripes. Admittedly time may have lead me to mistake yellow stripes for white but I recalled them as white. Whatever it was, the children were foul mouthed and generally not the kind of children I would want a child of mine to associate with. I am NOT saying that all of the children at that club are the same but those I saw were unsavoury and, most importantly, their behaviour went unchecked. I really want to support local endeavours and have been to Hertford Football club, albeit not as much as I would like. Yet I was shocked by what I witnessed that afternoon and feel reluctant to return.

I just want to set the record straight. Hertford Youth FC had zero affiliation to Hertford Town FC. It was a club set up by some parents in the late 80s for kids. The strip was red and yellow vertical stripes and black shorts (same as Partick Thistle, Scotland at the time) and absolutely nothing to do with the football club in West Street. They played at Goldings and, then later on, at Crouchfields.

Hertford Youth was set up earlier than that James by Messrs Hill, Crane and others. I remember as they tried to sign me from Bengeo *****cats for a Mars Bar but I went to Bury Rangers for two instead. I would say that Hertford Youth was set up circa 1981 but I may be slightly out.
